I need a guide to help me get from the last SCP main release, to the version 3.6.10 (the new version).

1) What folders\VP's\Files to I deleite?

I had a fresh install of FS2, then I think i did a auto installer, to get me to 3.6.9, which downloaded VP's, cutseenes, campaigns, and all that good jazz.
2) How do i get all that stuff uninstalled to install 3.6.10?

3) And, can i leave the campaigns and play them in 3.6.10 (I assume yes, but just to be sure)?

You don't technically need to delete anything, but you will be using a new executable, and new MediaVPs, and a new FSPort if you wanted that.  So I would rename your current mediavps folder to something else, or move it or something, and put the new MediaVPs in a folder called mediavps.  Put the latest nightly build of the SCP in your main directory alongside your 3.6.9 builds.  Change the build in the launcher.  If you want the FSPort, do the same for its folder, back it up and put the new Port files in a folder called fsport.  If you want the Port MediaVPs put them in their own fsportmediavps folder, and select it as the mod when you play.  You can play the port without mediavps then by just selecting the fsport folder instead.

As it was said, no need for specifically deleting stuff, but just to be on the safe side, move your current \mediavps\ folder somewhere else and create an empty one to \freespace2\.

See previous part about handling your MediaVPs. As for the FSO builds, you can have as many as you want in your \freespace2\ folder, because you'll use the Launcher to select the build you want to use.

Your assumption is correct, as long as all your mods and campaigns are in their own subfolders and not directly in \freespace2\.

Well in order to save space, and keep my overcrouded FS2 folder clean ... i want to remove the 3.6.9 build and its media VP's...especially if mk 10, has its own.

What do i delite?

You have to delete your 3.6.8z mediavps (all the mediavps in your mediavps folder if you haven't got the 3.6.10 mediavps yet), and all your 3.6.9 builds.
Then get the latest Nightly build for your OS, and stick the 3.6.10 mediavps into your old mediavps folder.

Well to be fair, i think i used several installers. There was turneys, fso, and a 3.6.9 i think. I tried Turneys and maby the fso one.

Actually it's remarkably easy to set up a clear FSOpen install directory. Just take the retail VP's into a directory, and either run FSOpen on that directory or manually add Launcher, FS2_Open build, mediavps and what ever mods you decide you need. Then run launcher, select the build, set up the settings and you're ready to go... assuming your hardware and drivers have no issues with FSO.

Okay. Amusing as you may find that Charismatic, I'm afraid that unless a more intelligible screenshot of your DIR is provided, the only help I can offer you is a Toll Free Psychologist #.

Seriously, if you expect to receive a determined effort on our behalf in helping you, **** like that just is _not_ going to do a damn thing for you other than to be ignored. Or worse.

I would like to _ask_ if you would please replace the above image with a more practical or larger view of your Freespace2 dir before we resume any further troubleshooting for you.

EDIT: Why is photobucket resizing my pictures? I took a screenie, used paint, saved as jpg, and uploaded via photobucket. Nothing else. Photobucket is being retarted...

EDIT2: No seems to be full sized. How do i make it bigger for you? I tried to resize but it got blury any closer.

You're my hero.  I'm sorry but I did find that funny, as much as it wasn't very useful towards helping you though.

Your attachment in the last post is fine, and really, I could pretty much make out the important stuff in version two anyway.  You can get rid of the FS2MVECutscenepack.vp and the *.MVE files in that folder, since you have the FS2OggCutscenePack.  Or keep the MVEpack and get rid of the Ogg one.  They're the same movies, personal preference really.

And it might help to actually have a 3.6.10 EXE in there somewhere. And unless that is the crappiest 3rd party theme for a mac or you have the folder shared to a mac or dual-boot into OSX, (even though they won't hurt anything being there) you don't need the *.dmg files either.

And it Also shouldn't be an issue, but by _default_ Freespace 2 installs to C:\Games\FreeSpace2\. The " SCP" part likely is not needed and there may be some retail registry entries that are using what it expects are the default values.

Uh, if BSGtrl stands for "Beyond Star Galactica the Red Line", it would be preferrable to have it completely separate from your FS2 installation.

Other than that, you seem quite ready to jump to 3.6.10. Download the latest nightly build (for Windows), download Launcher 5.5d if you don't have it yet, empty your \mediavps\ folder, download the new MediaVPs and stick them to \mediavps\.

I use a windows XP. Do i still need the *.dmg files? And if i dont need them, why did the installers dubbly copy my movies, and give me .dmg files i dont need?

Well, i saved a backup default copy of FS2 in the FS2 directory. Then the SCP stuff on the *scp directory. IF anything gets ****ed up, i just deleite, and copy.

And Lobo: Its an exe file. I didnt install it yet. Not sure if i will or not. I have most of the campaigns to go though still. Havent beat derilect yet.


And just to make sure, can anyone else confirm that i need to delite the .dmg files?

Well Turey's FSO Installer gives you whatever you check including Mac and Linux builds if you want them.  Or they may have come with another installer you used.  I'm guessing that's how you got three copies of the movies too, each installer probably got a different set.

They are not for Windows. You can't even use them. If you want to keep them, keep them. But the absolute truth is that they are useless to you.

If you do, remember that, assuming it's BtRL, it's a total conversion and more importantly a standalone. Do not install it to your \freespace2\ folder.
