Anyone here consider themselves an expert?

I shoot, real guns, real ammo, but I am looking for something to 1) let me get more shooting in without spending billions of dollars, 2) won't fubar my muscle memory for shooting my real sidearm, and 3) will let me introduce people to shooting without troublesome permits or NRA classes.

I picked up a Swiss Arms replica P2022, which is virtually identical to my Sig P229 in terms of appearance, heft and sights, its CO2 powered, but I have not fired it. Last CO2 pistol I fired was damn near 25 years ago, and they seem to have changed alot since then.

Anyone have any experience? Any comparative firearms experience?

Never did the paintball stuff but I've got a lot of experience with .22 pellet guns.  I can tell you you won't find a good pellet pistol without spending quite a bit.  Rifles are pretty good.  I try to avoid CO2 and have always gone with the 10 pump models.  That along with good ammo (none of that flat target stuff) and it's pretty darn accurate.  Scope helps too.  Only missed 1 target in 2 years but I made up for that by hitting 2 with one shot (intentionally).  Let's just say we don't have a pigeon problem in my neighborhood anymore.

Recently bought a decent CO2 pistol and I can't say I'm impressed at all.  It's got some hitting power but only at short range.  Of course being CO2 that power drops quick too.

Best ones I ever shot were my Dads old .22 Crossman ones.  Before the seals wore out (they were 30 years old at least) they were top notch.  Both were 10 pump and even the pistol had a good muzzle velocity and hitting power.  The rifle was downright deadly even at decent range.  Just like everything else they don't make them like that anymore.

Crossman and Remington are good brands.

Im soon to buy a CO2 powered pellet pistol, for ~200$. Its crossman so i hope its good quality.

Ill look it up for you.

I own this, in black: http://www.crosman.com/airguns/rifles/co2/1077
Im not the best shot but hell, i practice hard.

Im going to get this: http://www.crosman.com/airguns/pistols/T4OPTS
With all attachments. I fell in love with this. I hate the 8 shot clip tho. Realisitic but small.

The other secondary choices were (when i was deciding which one):
http://www.crosman.com/airguns/pistols/PRO77CS
Blowback action, sweetass.
http://www.airguns.com/portal/ProdList.nsf/ProductDetail?OpenForm&itemnumber=C31
Big clip size.

If I am going to do .22 pellet, I might as well just take them to the range and shoot .22 LR.

The bb/pellet guns do not that that orange "I am not real" bit on them, and have larger effective ranges and can actually kill things, and i think the state treats them more seriously than they possibly deserve. What little web research I have been able to do tells me airsoft will suit my needs, if I can find quality weapons.

General rule of thumb for airsoft is: you spend more, you get more. Tokyo Marui (TM) is debatable the best, and all of the cheap Chinese clones rip off of them. It used to be that the cheapo Chinese guns were ****,  but nowadays they're almost a 1:1 replica; the only difference is you have a higher chance of getting a lemon.
For a good full-auto electric rifle (shoots about 250-300 fps), expect to spend $200-$300 for a Japanese gun, or $100-200 for a Chinese copy. It's been awhile but UTG was one of the first to come out with a good copy; Well apparantly turned themselves around and make good guns now. For a pistol you've got three choices; spring, gas, or electric. Most electric pistols blow, except for the TM AEPs which are scaled down electric rifles (AEGs) and their subsequent clones; they're not as powerful or accurate as an AEG, and don't have the blowback of a gas pistol, but they work in all weather, run on electricity, and are generally about as or more powerful than a springer (and bordering on full size rifle power - about 200-280 fps  last I checked). They'll run you about $50-$100. Springers are the cheapest guns, and the higher quality guns that range around $40-$50 are pretty powerful, but you have to cock them after every shot. Anything lower than about $40-$30 is where you start getting the guns that are fun to plink around with but shoot only about 180 fps and break after a couple matches. The final type of pistol is gas powered. These are probably the most realistic in that they have full blowback (the hammer slides back with every shot as it chambers a new bb), they shoot as hard as an AEG, but you have to constantly fill them up with gas, with all the problems that represents. They'll run about $60-$150.

How about the Swiss Arms ones? This was regularly 75$ but was on sale, it seems a combination of metal and plastic, and is CO2 gas powered. Ever used them?

You must have stricter laws there or no one enforces them around here.  I can go shoot mine in my backyard and I live in a city.

You could drive up to New Hampshire.  It's "Live Free Or Die" :D

Since your comparison photo indicates you already have a firearm Inquisitor how much of a pain is it getting a license in MA?  I sometimes toy with the idea of applying for one so i could get a cap and ball revolver.

Varies from town to town, you need a day long safety class, then basically interview with your local Police Chief. And then each and every weapon needs registered.

Cap and ball on the other hand, may not have the same restrictions. I know some states deal with those diffeerently.

Out of curiosity, what kind of license are you talking about?  Concealed deadly weapons license, or just an ownership license?  I ask because you only need a license to carry a concealed weapon here in Kentucky.  You can purchase any rifle after 18, and any handgun after 21 (full-auto firearms excluded).

Same here and outside the city limits or on your own property you can carry open with no license.  At least where I am.  It varies from city to city, county to county.

Yeah our hardware guy at work used to be a cop in Revere, he said the laws are so convoluted the police don't actually know them so they have a lawyer who's job is specifically to know the Mass firearms laws.  I'll check with the Chief, i figure if they have musket deer hunting season then a black powder revolver is probably okay.  Every once in a while i take a look at the 1858 New Army, .44 cal and think that it might be a fun hobby.

Colorado has very lenient gun laws, but Denver, which wields a lot of political power here, has much stricter standards.

Thank God.

A license is required to own a pistol or rifle in MA.

One of the reasons I am interested in Airsoft ;)

You can apply ;)

Whether you get the "All lawful purposes" exception (MA's conceal carry permit) is another story ;)

Oh, get over it.  The people actually following gun laws are literally the last people on Earth you have to worry about with a gun.
