Very annoying stuttering issue in FS2
Hello fellow Freespace fans! To remember and honour the good old times, I recently purchased FS2 from gog.com. Since I'm using a large HDTV I needed to figure out how to use higher widescreen resolutions in FS2. I found the cure rather quick, FSO 3.6.9. But I have a new issue now. Specifically on nebula missions, I'm getting bad stuttering. Turning off 'large textures' seems to help it a bit, but I still occasionally get minor hick-ups. It ****s up my aim and is pissing me OFF. Are there any known fixes for that?

My computer is certainly powerful enough to run it all, so it might be Vista-related issue. Any help would be appreciated :)

Hmm.

1) 3.6.10 builds get along with widescreen resolutions better than 3.6.9 does.
2) "Certainly powerful enough" is not that descriptive. More accurate system specs would be appreciated.

Also, make sure all drivers are up to date. In addition, if you have a dual/many core processor, have you tried assigning FSO to just one core?

As always, running a debug build and then posting the fs2_open.log file it generates to \freespace2\data\ couldn't hurt.

Re: Very annoying stuttering issue in FS2
My system specs here as follows:
Intel Q9550 @ 3.2 ghz
2 X Geforce GTX 280 (1024 MB on each)
2 GB DDR2 800 MHz
Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Forcing it to run on one core only didnt make a difference. I believe my issue is somehow related to memory management. The game engine is unable to preserve enough memory for the additional eyecandy. I've got almost 1 GB of free RAM while running FS2.

It would be good to try a 3.6.10 build before digging deeper into it.
