I remember Alt+0169 and that's it. Is there a handy list anywhere or is trial and error my only option here?

Well in newer versions you should be able to use # instead of the old method.

You definitely should use the hash for new missions. Using ascii characters might not survive the transition to proper font support (Whenever we get around to it).

The # shows up in the comm menu though, while invisible characters don't AFAIK.

I thought everything after the # didn't show up in game?
