Whadja think the odds are of this kicking ass?

It's not exactly a flight sim, but 's basically one done in the tub, and so far it looks more promising than I-War...

Looks good! When's the release date? (didn't look at the site closely)
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

WHY ARE THE EXCHANGE RATES FOR BRITISH STUFF SO ****ING HIGH???

[Note: not entirely off topic. The predecessor doesn't look bad, either.]

I dunno. Far as I can tell, doesn't say.

Looks like they're practically done, tho. THey've released a demo and all sorts of extras...

This reminds me of a game I had called Operation Neptune or something like that. What you had to do is command a submarine (its all 2D) and guide it through deep waters. Not only that there are nasty fish around but also dangerous and action packed math problems. I never did finished the game-probably never will.

Hopefully this game isn't as dull as Operation Neptune.
I finally destoryed the Shivan armada and all I got was this lousy T shirt.

I played Operation Neptune once...it's part of the Gizmos and Gadgets series (those games, ya know?). I got to the last level where you get the Substance X but the box it was in spits radioactive particles that kill you and...I never did beat it.

JR: Here's your chance.:p

HOTU has the answer to everything, so long as it involves a depressingly outdated game.:D

good game, otherwise.
only game of the same kind i played was subculture, nice, but i got bored quite quickly.

Well, looks about as realistic as FS. Realism isn't a good thing in games after a certain point- I-War again.

Sub Culture? Hah!

What... a terrible game. I HOPE it's not like that.:D

Wasn't Aquanox like already out?

As I recall, Aquanox was a technology demo that someone saw and decided would sell. Its pure arcade action, without even the pretense at simulation (at least Freespace is sim... ISH). All in all, I'd give it a pass.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Very little in the way of plot...

We'll see. The original (Archimedean Dynasty) got quite high marks in the only game reviewing site I've seen that, so far, has failed to miss. I'd buy the original, but the equivalent of $20 or more plus international shipping for a game made in 1996 (OK, any game at all), is just too much.

BTW: FreeSpace is NOT sim, despite claims by many. Sim requires the limitations of reality to be a very real issue- they just aren't. The Falcon series are the ultimate sim. Most ground-based flight sims are more or less actually sims. I-War was a space sim, and we all know how much that sucked. "Sim" means nothing. Any category of game (except for, for reasons obvious to anyone familiar with the fanbase, FPS) can be decent, when done decently. Even roleplayers. I'd give it a chance

obviously, you consider yourself has "many".
If it sucked, it wouldn't have sold, and then there wouldn't be a sequel (which seems less sim oriented, btw), and not that many people would like it. oh well.

I refer to the sequel. I don't have the original, and since the deciding points of my opinion were stupid things that normally no gamemaker would do, I don't make assumptions that it's just as bad. And I'm sorry, but quality and number of people buying a game are completely unrelated, if not inversely proportional. I'd bring Westwood into this, but that's just too damn obvious. I'll merely bring Quake into this.

Quake and Red Alert 2 (for example) are both fun, for some. As long as there is a group of customers enjoying the game, the game is a success. whether technically the game is good or not doesn't reflect on its success or fun.
