Choose your preferred Corellian Gunship Midsection!

Option 1:
Cylindrical Style seen mostly in the EU drawings and schematics, this is the most commonly seen.


Option 2:
Corellian Corvette Style, seen in XWA, and my own favorite style.


Choose wisely, for there are no Snuffleupaguses.

Yeah, keeping the same aesthetic for stuff from a certain planet helps tie the look together and makes the universe seem less like the work of a hundred EU authors of varying quality.  Looking good!

I've never liked any of the EU book ships, so I say go with the XWA version. At least it's not ugly as hell.

I vote for the Corellian Corvette Style.

Two reasons: First is that I like that design better. Second is that you said that's your preferred look. If you are to model something, it helps to match your preferences.

Hope to see something come out of it, textured, turreted, POFfed.

I like the cylindrical style, but it looks like I'm solidly in the minority there.

I prefer the cylindrical one. The corvette style has appeal because the flanges on either side give it an orientation and a sense of stability. The cylinder feels more integrated than the corvette (which is a plus), and would get the corvette's sense of stability with the addition of a plane to connect the two cylinders together. Like so:

We're talking about the Gunship.  As you can tell, there's a lot of variations on it.  Therefore this one is up to Axem as to how to proceed for the most part, since there isn't really a definitive version to base it on.

Sorry about the complete lack of any updates. I've been trying to get the Gunship engine block juuuuust right. Every pic is nearly contradictory to each other, so I'm not trying for a reference exact model. Still that didn't help matters. After a few rounds of "This Sucks, I'm Restarting!" here's what I got.

The ones in photobucket look ok to me. What was wrong with them?

Well, nothing technically. The main problem for me was transitioning from a very round shape to a very blocky shape. I tried to make it look like a real design. 3a and 4a were alright in my opinion, but it I wanted to have big armor plates on the engines something like seen here: http://swc.fs2downloads.com/reference/Misc/Gunship/bts_bg.jpg

5a was getting closer, but the transition to the engine block still didn't do it for me. So I just made that cylinder bigger and make it the transition itself.

Thumbs up.  I think doing the burner cans like those in the concept art and consular ship from PM would look pretty good.  Any chance of a helicopter gunship-esq chin gun?  I really think it would add a bit of character to the flowerpot.

I wasn't positive about the weather the corvette or cylindrical style would look better.  After seeing both on the ship the corvette looks a lot better.

Small update

Starting adding finer detail, and made the armor that goes over the top and bottom of the engines into their own plates, like the the side plates.

That's looks really nice!  I like StarSlayer's idea of a chin mounted gun too...it just says "gunship".  Perhaps a quad laser turret or repeating blaster/fighter deterrent thing?  Might add some strategic element to fighting a ship that has an otherwise even distribution of guns.  Anyway, it seems like the extra work on the cowling has paid off; it looks like it belongs, but still has a style.

Dunno know about the giant YT series bridge windows.  Granted the Carrack set the precedent of obnoxiously large bridges but the gunship's around the same size as the CR90 vette and the consular ship.  Personally I would advocate something a bit more smaller and subdued in addition to keeping the standard flowerpot shape, it seems more robust. If your looking for greeble ideas i would consider adding escape pods to the underside of the middle hull.
