Have to admit that I'm starting to run out of ideas. As a really long shot, you could try to copy OpenAL32.dll to your \Freespace2\ directory. That way the game engine should read it first, regardless of what else is on your computer.

Did you try removing them and rebooting before installing again?  Couldn't hurt.

Copied and pasted the OpenAL32.dll file from System 32 into the main folder. Replaced the one there (Different version or something considering the file size was different) and everything loads up normally now.

ok, if i left the older openal32.dll on the main folder i gona hang myselft...

I remember to have inluided that on the first release when i was not using a installer, that was a quick way of allowing the game to run without having to install openAL...

On the 1.5 pack back then, i incluided the installer, and also it does runs the openal installer, i left the dll on the folder because is was of the same version than the incluided openal installer...

On this 2.0 release i updated the OpenAL installer to the last version... if i left the older openal.dll file on the main folder, then the "installed" OpenAL will be not the same than the OpenAL on the main folder and most likely the game is trying to override the newer OpenAL with the older one on the main folder causing some problems... I remember to have remove it...

I have to check this tomorrow. Everything i can say its strange, since i didt have any problem on any pc that i tried to install the game.

OK, confirmed. is a older openal32.dll file on the fs2 main folder, i will put this in the know issues and i will update the fix1 to resolve this issue.

As this is my first time with FS2, how do you install this pack?  I currently have FS Open installed.

Hey Shevian I downloaded and installed the update, now all I get when I click the launcher is openal32.dll not valid, and FS won't run at all. could this be a firewall thing or is my open al out of date?

As described on this very page: remove OpenAL32.dll from your \freespace2\ folder (not the one in C:\Windows\System32\ !).

ok, well, I guess all I can say now is oops, I just uninstalled and reinstalled FS and FS2, and I need to run Tureys installer and then redwonload Shivens updates all over again.
I told yall a long time ago I was a idiot, I guess now I just confirmed it huh?

Do it in this order:
1. Install FS2.
2. Install ShivanSPS's pack.
3. Remove OpenAL32.dll from your \freespace2\ folder.
4. Run Turey's Installer.

Otherwise you'll be installing the same stuff twice and wasting bandwidth.

I installed FS2 installed Svivan's updates, ran tureys installer, and wondered why after removeing open al from my computer instead of the proper folder it didn't work

Got it this time,:) so far everything works 4.0 But after installing the SCP update and deleting the open al from the FS2 folder, there was nothing for Turey's installer to update.

Exactly. Imagine if you had done things in the wrong order. First you would have installed FS2. Nothing wrong there. Then you would have used Turey's Installer. With everything selected, it would have downloaded over 4GB of data. Then you would have used ShivanSPS's pack, which would have installed the same 4GB of data again. Not much sense in there.

As for something that neither of the installers could give you: get the latest nightly build from the Nightly Builds board (link in my signature).

Well, I'm just glad as hell I have it running, when I can't play freespace I get really really cranky. Almost as bad as if I don't get my morning coffee.

May I please ask what campaigns are voice acted? Maybe I'm shallow but no voice acting really kills the immersion for me (I know derelict is, great campaign).

I just installed this pack and it went smoothly, put it right where I have retail FS2 and all. Except now that I go to use the launcher I get this error message. Any help guys and gals?

I thought it might be a problem with OpenAL so i redownloaded it and installed it and it installs quickly, gives me an "installation complete" message, and that's it. Still have the problem though. Stumped!



EDIT: Hold on I forgot to install Fix1. let me do that and see if it fixes stuff!

EDIT2: That seems to have fixed it. Silly me :-)

Yes. For some interesting reason the pack places an old version of OpenAL32.dll to the \freespace2\ folder, which the game engine proceeds to use, followed by an error report. The fix apparently removes it, though the user can also do it.
