A Question about FOV...

About the game's field of view (the one you set through the command line) ... I've always wondered if it is measured horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.  I tried searching the code, and came up with nothing.  Does anyone know?

Also, on the same topic: is it the total angle (edge to edge), or is it the angle from forward to the edge?
