A friend of mine does some ship design in Raydream, but doesn't think he's very good, so I'd like to get some backup from you guys. :D

I always liked the perspective view with the 3 grids. Very innovative. It saves on view redraws but still allows you to align stuff perfectly.

It was sold to pay for a TNT2 (Yes I did actually BUY a completely, 100% legal, boxed program ( :jaw: )). And at the time, I didn't have a writable CD drive. I suppose I could try and 'appropriate' another copy from somewhere.

I suppose that's why its gone now.

Seriously, as far as I can tell, Raydream Studio (in Darkfoot's case) has some heinous drawbacks, among them is the stunning ability to convert any normal model into a 200mb DXF (seemingly the only widely useful format it understands). He and I cannot seem to share models unless we both use Raydream or neither of us does. Oh, and that view system drives me absolutely batty.

Everyone: thanks. I'll let him know your kind words. I'm trying to get him to spend more time on the modelling. He's got the skills, but he's letting it languish. Hopefully some positive feedback from someone other than me will help. :D

Mik: Gone how? The company tanked explosively, it's a years-old program (ancient by any standards nowadays), but it's still getting sold quite a bit, and still has an enormous following. It even has a (crappy) new version in Carrara. If that counts as gone, I'm missing something.;)

Also: You don't export into DXFs. DXFs are the ultimate in last resorts- **** to the core in any prog. You either use its relatively good export options, or you get Carrara for almost nothing and gain the ability to export it into practically anything- most importantly, 3DS MAX files, which are universal and generally have fair import/exporters. The prog's for ****e if you don't learn how to use it, of course. Same with anything, down to your car keys and the wheel.

Actually that last is the problem Stryke: my friend knows how to use it, and we can't get a reasonable export period. He's switching to 3dsMax because Raydream just isn't cutting it any more. He hates 3dsMax like I do, but its either that, Truespace or Lightwave. If you think this community has some negative opinions of Truespace, you should hear Alec. He curses in ways that would make my old-school Navy master chief blush.

As for it being dead and gone, it is, except in Cararra, which few, if any, take seriously.
