Set-object-postion for wings

How does this work?  I know it does but can't quite figure out how what it uses to move the wing.  Logically you would think it would take the center point of the ships and position that at the given coordinates but that doesn't seem to be what it's doing.   
No-one ever listens to Zathras. Quite mad, they say. It is good that Zathras does not mind. He's even grown to like it. Oh yes. -Zathras

It works the same way as FRED.  It sets the position of the wing leader, and all the wingmen are moved to their relative positions.

That makes sense then.  The wing leader isn't the first ship in the wing.
