Launch tubes? More than 4 guns? She looks pretty impractical.
Or something.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the Launch tubes are internally mounted and rear-facing?

We frequent sfm all the time. I'd say there's little to no chance of a bsg ship being posted there that we don't
know about :)

Well, Vipers don't necessarily have to launch from tubes. (though, it makes more sense to do so). In a zero-g environment vipers, and really anything, can launch all VTOL-style.

As we see on the Demetrius.

Re: Looking around on SFM, found some things you might like.
If I recall from that ship's development I think that's only a Raptor bay almost like the Lamps Helo hangar on a destroyer.  In addition to the quad of guns I think there are a pair of pop up turrets on the flight deck (you can see one under the doors).  Assuming it has the same weaponry on bottom and 4 in the jaw thats  16 guns to Galactica's 24.  Add that to what ever CIWCs guns it has in the ribs and a Raptor complement thats a pretty tough nut to crack.  It won't smack up a baseship to be sure but a squadron of them could probably overwhelm one.

aww come on. We have dozens of huge battlestar designs. This is a great small vessel to round out the fleet. :-P!

Nice design.

Looks like a RIS shuttle on steroids.

Re: Looking around on SFM, found some things you might like.
I like the model, I'm just not too sure what its tactical role would be, other than the fact it could probably be built in greater numbers than the Battlestars, it is smaller, weaker and couldn't carry as many ships. I suppose it might be a police or convoy escort ship, but if that's the case, I'd rather have the Bolitho backing me up.

Re: Looking around on SFM, found some things you might like.
The Battlestars were designed as all-in-one fleet ships with the ability to re-arm and resupply their attendant fleet.  I heard somewhere that they have 10 yrs. worth of water onboard (recycling included).  All those supplies take up room.  Something tells me this is more of a battleship than a battlestar, as in a ship designed specifically to carry guns and strikecraft  and operate in friendly territory where resupplying is not an issue.  Think Bolitho on steroids.

Re: Looking around on SFM, found some things you might like.
In all seriousness, we have a rather balanced fleet doctrine in mind for Diaspora. Keeping in mind that ships such as the Valkyerie show a more specialized trend than the Galactica.

As seen with the Bolitho, we have our own concepts and plans of implementing this, while trying to avoid kitbashes.

Re: Looking around on SFM, found some things you might like.
I like it - it's a simple and practical mini Battlestar of the same vintage as the Galactica and not much smaller than a Valkyrie.  Think of it as an HMS Invincible class equivalent, while the Galactica is like the USS Forrestal and the Pegasus like a Nimitz class.  The RN carriers were going to be much more effective in patrolling the GIUK gap, while the big US carriers are morre effective in the open oceans.  Or you could compare it to a USMC "Harrier carrier", which is also considerably smaller than a Nimitz class, but still plays a vital role.

I wouldn't like to be combat landing a damaged Viper or Raptor on those small strips bwtewwn the upper large engines and ablove the small engines, and it colud be a bit of a danger to the ship itself, but the approach path to the landing pods on all the various Battlestar designs (TOS and TNS, inculding the Defender) have the same problem of an approach path that is very close to the blindingly bright engines, witha  potential for some sort of wake and the worry about a collision inside the engine (surely a very severe occurence for the big ship?).

Re: Looking around on SFM, found some things you might like.
This ship would only be for the experienced viper pilots, since there's no possibility to wave off and not crash into the ship. For obvious reasons

I love seeing different ship designs and arrangements, especially smaller ones.

Really fantastic work. Keep it up m8! Love the dual landing "runways".
