Imagine: a shielded Sath
Just imagine... a shielded Sathanas...
We have already deduced that the beam cannons are sufficient enough to deal with the shivan cap-shield.
But... if we say that we need, for instance, 1,5 Colly to deal with a Sath in one-on-one, how much would you say for a shielded one (with equal shield to its health) - note that, of course, the beam cannons would remain intact until the shields are down.

I think if the beam cannons were operational, that would be plain overkill and unbalanced, and the GTVA seriously needs to think about mass producing the Colossus

But something like a huge attack on the flanks to bring down the shields by destroyers with a fighter escort, and then deploying bombers and more corvettes to deal the final blow would be good, or maybe the other way around.

Otherwise, using V's standard strategy of "Alpha 1, there's some big unimagineably hideous thing totally raping the GTVA, and with the power of the quick start button, we believe you're just the man for the job", the GTVA would be annihalated.

Re: Imagine: a shielded Sath
A Deimos parked between the beams would be required to disarm the Sath (with slashers, since game mechanics say that beams fire through shields), instead of a bomber wing doing it in a few runs like what we've seen in FS 2 (as bombs don't do much damage vs shields).

After that everything returns to normal, the Big C kills it.

I'd also think the reason the Shivans didn't deploy Lucy again is that they were met with beams, and figured out that a fleet of offensively balanced Saths would do better than defensively balanced Lucy's.

Re: Imagine: a shielded Sath
You misunderstood my question.
I mean how much of Collys would be necessary to take down a shielded Sath on their own?
(a note about the Deimos: it is highly probable that the Sath won't be alone and since it is moving, the Deimos shouldn't park in front of it, since WHAM, and if it has a shield with the same strength as its hull, it is still a crappy thing in my point of view.

The legendary "DIVE DIVE DIVE!!! Hit your... oh wait, cr@p, you don't have burners."  :p

Someone would need to calculate beam shield damage, multiply it by the ammount of beams a Collie could focus on 1 target, and see how much time's needed to kill the Sath if the shields were to be beam resistant. Then we could compare how many times faster a Sath kills a Collie, and we'd have some base to operate from during futher discussion.

And if not- The Big C has a few slashers, so if the fight begins at less than 4 clicks I'd give 1 C a good chance of disarming the Big S before being smoked.

Shielded Sath's are no match for the GTVI Disruptor Torpedoes.

Re: Imagine: a shielded Sath
As evident by AAAf and fighters, shields don't don't do anything to stop beams. Anything. And since the GTVA's main, quickest, and easiest method to take down an enemy warship is with large beams, I don't think a shielded Sathanas would yield satisfactory protection for its cost.

Re: Imagine: a shielded Sath
Yeah well not with slashers we cant.

Besides its not really fair to say that ! I mean the Collie took a while to get blown up. yet in all that time it coul not focus its beams in a one hit take out the beam wonder??? I dont buy that . The Sath was like less then 2 km away surely it should of been able to disarm the Sath .

Besides if you play fair and go head on you cant even take out a Ravana ! But if you play smart and go about it the good way then you can beat anithing the shivans have !

Re: Imagine: a shielded Sath
Doesn't ships like the Sathanas and Moloch have a reactor subsystem anyway, what is the purpose of it on those ships?

A shielded Sathanas would only make it impervious to everything but beam weapons, just like the Lucifer. Enough beam weaponry will still make its hull drop like bricks, very slow bricks but albiet faster than what other weapons would do.

Re: Imagine: a shielded Sath
Not sure if the Sathanas has one off the top of my head (I doubt it), but the Rakshasa and Moloch have reactor subsystems. They serve no purpose in the game, like the Lucifer's - you use FREDding to make them useful.

No it doesnt. After nuking the subsytems with Shivan Super Lasers many times, i know for a fact that it doesn't have a Reactor

Right it doesn't have one, but the Rakshasa and Moloch do.

I guess the Shivans are one-of-a-kind: they learn from past mistakes.  ;)

Well you'd figure in 10.000 years its about time to learn something !

I would of liked to hear the comm chatter of the shivans when the GTVA met them with beams. Crappy beams but beams nevertheless !

GTVA acquires Total Annihilation tech.  Soon there'll be more Colossus than there are Shivan fighters

I'm sure every member of the GTVA High Command gets up in the morning, leans over their bed and prays to God for the day Colossi outnumber Shivan Fighters. That would seriously be Total Annihalation, also counting uber-market crash, lack of financial dependence, and lack of use for pilots

Price of gaining TA tech: wishful thinking
Cost building Collosi: lots metal and energy
Price of seeing Shivans face when they see the massive Collosi armada: priceless
