Have you ever looked back at one of your first FREDing missions, and then looked at where you are now? For those that have FREDed for a while, don't they bring back great memories, of how you though a BoE would be so frikin' sweet, and then you decided to try to make it? I tried that, and I must say I failed horribly. If you have the guts to, this is the place to post those old "great" memories up for others to enjoy. I sadly don't have mine anymore (and no, I'm not kidding,) so if someone could start by putting one up (if they wish) that would be great. :)

And no, it does not have to be your VERY first one you ever made. It could have been the 2nd or 3rd or 5th, but something that you can look back on and laugh at. If you want to, feel free to post your best one up to. It would be a great thing for newer FREDers (like me) to learn from.

Just bring back memories of how much time I wasted making a multiplayer mission with and asteroid field in retail.  Good mission the engine just couldn't handle it resulting in clients just shooting right through everything.  Guess I'm still doing the same things today.  Pushing the engine to the limits and breaking stuff.
No-one ever listens to Zathras. Quite mad, they say. It is good that Zathras does not mind. He's even grown to like it. Oh yes. -Zathras

Oh here we go

I'll dig up one of mine. It's the first mission I 'seriously' made, discounting the 'let's-see-what-this-does' kind of first mission. I'll attach ASAP

Found it

Brings back fond memories of working tirelessly revising it as a n00b to uber-it-up. When we thought an uber-hard dogfight only winnable by FUBAR was the way to gain respect here along with a campaign that ties up every loose end in the FS Universe. Ahhhh, those were the days  :)

BTW It's the first of 20-something missions I made in an unrealeased post-Capella campaign. I highly recommend doing something similar if you are fairly new to FRED and learning the ropes.

If you mean trying to do a campaign, I agree. I tried to make atleast 6 missions not connected to a campaign (only 1 or 2 did I finish) but it helped me a lot. It helps a lot because every mission has different things to learn and try.

Yeah, but I would maintain the same thing it says on the wiki, which is don't release your first mission/campaign, because no matter how good you think it is, FRED-ing something good takes practice and experience.

I wouldn't agree with saying you shouldn't release it. Feedback on it will help you see what mistakes you made much more quickly. Just be prepared for a lot of complaints. :)

Well, I've never thought of it that way. I'd made 2 campaigns and was in the process of making a third one before I release my first mission so I can't relate to that.

I don't think I released anything publicly until I'd been here for more than 4 years and I didn't release anything that any large number of people played until BtRL came out. :D

So it's not a hard and fast rule. Depends on the individual really.

Oh god, my old campaigns, there's a memory I didn't want... XD They were very Second Great War Part II-ish. I think the second mission of my first campaign was a BOE. And it had Ancients fighting alongside the HoL.

Granted, I still do stupid crap. For example, I just spent an hour trying to figure out why this one fighter wing wasn't jumping in when they were supposed to. The reason? Leo Wing's arrival cue was set to three seconds after Leo Wing arrived.

Yay, Boolean Logic failure!

Before I really became engrossed in SCP in mid '08 I was a terrible FREDer XD

I basically downloaded all the "grade-A" mods (Derelict, BP, Transcend, etc.) to see how it's done. I'd like to think I've improved a lot.

I've been FREDding on off for years but haven't had the nerve to release anything. I remember my first campaign (which hardly got started) involved Bosh leading a Shivan attack on the GTVA

My most recent campaign I asked around on the FRED forum for hints even though I had no intention of releasing just so I had the knowledge next time of how to do it better (but more importantly, faster and easier).

Because I've got a background in photography I tend to think of mission building is just like making good images; put in the hours because its the quality that will suffer if you don't.

Oh sorry, I've had 2 hours of sleep for the past 48 hours and I'm in really no state to assess your mission...will get back to it soon hopefully when I've recovered
