Hello everyone, i just got into Freespace 2 thank to a friend. First thing i did was download Open Freespace. I followed instructions, but im not sure if game is installed correctly. I first installed FS2 from the cd, and on top of it i used the Open FS installer and downloaded all the files. How can i be sure its installed correctly?
Also i want to use the FSPort mod, it comes already with the installer?
Thanks!

Let us know if that doesn't cover everything.

The best mod to start with is 'MediaVPs'; you should see drastically enhanced graphics. There's a small chance your MediaVPs are corrupt if you got them from the installer, in which case you'll have to redownload them from the release thread over in the Freespace Upgrade subforum.

the stuff you get from installing is retail data. mods, media vp's etc are not.

So its right what i did, installing retail (full game) patching, then using installer?

And to download mods, i want to start playing FS1 campaign . Can i use MediaVPs mod and the FS1 port? Or must be used separately?

when any user campaign that supports media vps is used the vp's automatically kick in. this includes the freespace port, so yes, both can be used simultaneously.

Select the mod you want to play under the "mod" tab on the launcher, then just run the game.  The files are installed such that if it supports the mediavps, it will run the mediavps along with the mod, with the mod taking priority.

Ive been playing and no crashes or errors, im using 3.6.10 release, though not latest nightly build should i use one? Playing FS1 campaign now, mediavps work fine.
Last question, i want to play coop with a friend, how do we find out if games are compatible?

If you're lazy like me you can just get the latest builds whenever you feel like it. :P
