i think the sidebar is a little outdated (rather the default mediawiki sidebar). Imho the "current events" field e.g. should be removed and some link to the forum or something similiar should be added instead. The syntax is like the following:

or maybe we could split the sidebar in 2 parts:

** http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,120.0.html|FreeSpace Upgrade Project

You could also create a manual url by adding a page called "Mediawiki:forum-url" and the content "http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,122.0.html".
These are just a few examples, don't worry asking me questions.

Yes, the Current Events page is sort of redundant - as it is empty. However, an admin is required to edit it.

Another thing I figure I'll mention while talking about the site layout:

The tab bar across the top of the site (Home, Forums, FreeSpace Wiki, Getting Started, ...) isn't there when viewing the wiki.
