Well, recently I decided to replay BP. Everything has gone fine until now. When I first played through BP I had it unpatched. Did you change the background of first contact in the patch, because I certainly don't remember it being like it is now (blue and orange LS nebulae) The original had a custom texture or something, didn't it?

IIRC it's always been a custom skybox with some nebulae on top of it.  If you can't see the skybox, then there is a problem.
