I created a new model recently, to act as an improved weapon to the Mjolnir, and I don't have any conversion tools to get my model the pof. I can export to 3ds, but that's as far as I can get. So, I was wondering if perhaps someone could help.

So, I was also wondering, do I have to include the shields with the model, or is it added seperatly? (and if I have to have it with the origional model, does it have to be in peices, or as one large shield?)

Are you sure TrueSpace doesn't let you save the file as .cob?

Select the whole hierarchy of the model, Save Object As, and select cob from the pulldown menu. Scene (*.SCN) files won't work (although they are useful for saving the whole crapola when you're working on it).

At least that's how it works on tS3.2. What version of Truespace are you using?
There are three things that last forever: Abort, Retry, Fail - and the greatest of these is Fail.

As for 'separate shields' sorry I'm a good converter, but I have no idea if there is new code about multiple shielding... AFAIK, though I think I did hear it mentioned or quieried once.

You can make a custom shield or import an existing one that fits it well...


I used 3dexploration (The precursor to Deep Exploration) to make various formats to .cob

  My versions can't read .max so I ask my sources to sue .3ds, .lwo, or similar formats (.dfx, wrl exc...)

arg... I can't seem to get the textures applied! ><

So... is it possible someone could get the textures applied, and if they are willing to do extra, place the single gun point at the tip, where the Mjolnir beam will be? And even put the shield, and weapon subsystems in between the panels, and the reactor on the (wide yellow part) reactor itself?

I took a quick look a min ago, you're 3ds model is already textured...

 I'll just make a single aprt turret at teh mouth and then add an existing shield for a test since when I make those some get "wonky"  :)

I'll see how it turns and and re-edit this post in 15-20 mins to let you know what's going on with the 3ds model conversion...  :D

{edit]  2 mins later, Your .cob retained it's textures, still working...

    5 more minutes, your .cob is oriented and a test pof about to be made.

  12 more min,s in game unarmed not shielded yet, it blows up fine. I couldn;t use PCS1 to use it (stack overflow error), MV saved the day (since all know I cant use pcs2 on my systep :P  )

 Progress so far, I am stopping for a break.  QUESTION, what size (length) is this supposed to be???

Another Question: Can you make pcs2 work on your system?

I haven't been able to get a good design for the Hellion, but the main reason I didn't have it made, was I have no way of really getting it into Freespace :/

Getter Robo G, PCS2 works fine on my computer. When I am in PCS2 or ModView, it does not list the textures, so I figured it wasn't working. :/ The model is supposed to be about the size of the Mjolnir. Thanks for testing it. :)

Alrighty then...


  I looked at the retail mjolnir (never noticed it's off by 90degrees verticle?). So it'll be a rough approximation : 93/91/108  ish is teh range I'm shooting for then.

  After resizing I will make the turret cause in the past I had trouble doing sizing after them.

  Finally, does it have a shield? I can give it a temp one if wanted...

  There is a problem on my end, get someone else to look at the pof, its' not firing.
  Been a LONG tiem since I armed something (and I can onyl make single part ones anyway).

  So here is everythign so far, once the turret glitch is cleared you just need a shield, I am assuing you are using the Mjolnir table, so I didin't include one.

ok. thanks. Ya, I made a few adjustments to mine, and it has a shield, weapons/sensors subsystems, as well as the reactor. I couldn't get a docking point (incase someone wanted to have a freighter move them into position or as cargo) :/

So, I guess I should give you the more improved version? :/ Or I can try to find someone else who knows how to get it to work the rest of the way in FS :/

Would you be willing to help me with a few conversions?

Since you have PCS2 all i would need is for you to run the preset cobs I have into pofs. Any that faila re no issue, I just need the ones that make it through and become pofs...

well, that sounds l a deal :P

I was hoping to get the docking point onto an unassigned panel (no weapons or sensor subsystems on the chosen panel.)

This is as far as I can take it, sorry...

Plus tables really aren't my thing.. In theory the shields and dock path should work

I make the dock on the top panel and the three systems on the others. I had to redo them because your new upload is oriented wrong and you have to do that as a .cob anyway and re-save which voids your data...

It does fire though... And blows up fine no crash...


Get with me on MSN ([email protected]) or Yahoo (Getter_Robo_G_2004) sometime so I can send you files more easily.

Not just for privacy, but half of the things I use are personal OR was requested not to release...

awesome.

But... I noticed that there was one untextured part that may be covering a textured part (same connector between the cannon and one of the panels), and I don't know if that means it's invisible and will show the textured one ingame, or if if will be just invisible ingame (the entire connector area) D: Any idea? :/

I noticed it, but didnt pay much attention to it cause it seemed to have latched onto the turret cube somehow and its irrelavant as it shares the INVISIBLE texture. So you shouldn't notice it in game.

If you do notice it, then it will have to be remodeled cause it happened every time I made a turrent and might be soem geometry issue... I don't recoall seeing that type of thing before...
