Hi guys. I've been trying to get FSO and visual upgrades working with FS2, but haven't had much success. I followed the guides here; first, using the downloader program and just dumping all files in there. Second, I've done things manually, following the "thinker's" guide and a brand new fresh FS2 install.

I'm using fs2_open_3_6_10r-20090322_r5114.exe with the mv_complete updated single file. I believe I've followed the instructions accurately, but despite checking the visual upgrade ticks (i.e., specular, glowmaps, etc) FS2 looks essentially stock. 3d radar and flashes upon warp are the only things I've noticed that are different. The various custom lighting profiles have an effect (usually just making everything darker).

You might want to get 3.6.10 RC2 (link in my signature), though I assume there are not that many differences between the two, at least from an end-user's point of view.

Actually, Text to Speech alone probably warrants using it for many users
