Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
It was running really slow earlier as well.  Took over 5 minutes to load a page.

It wouldn't load at all for me.
If you don't have Knossos, you need it.

Yeah, that happened here too.

Maybe there was server maintenance (or problems) going on.

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
The server was overloaded with dead httpd processes earlier today.  It happens from time to time.  I just stopped the processes, let it set a while for the TCP connections to time out, then restarted.  The server only has a meg of RAM in it, so it doesn't take too much to make it hit swap and then it just gets crazy slow with everything, and Apache in particular has a real problem with threading in that case.  I believe that a memory upgrade is on the way though, so hopefully this sort of problem won't be so much of an issue at that point.

How do you upgrade the memory?

Since a server is just an ordinary computer, you add on to the RAM like you would on any ther PC. Just buy more and slide it into the slot.

Well since the server isn't sitting next to me, my question still stands.

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
Sure you didn't mean a GB, Taylor? A Meg really isn't much (though you know that)
Gettin' back to dodgin' lasers.

Ya I'm hoping he said a GB.. you probably could get by using a system with only a MB as a router.

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
Heh, yeah I meant gig rather than meg.  I guess that my brains and my hands weren't talking all that well when I wrote that. ;)

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
LOL I remember when my computer first got 1MB of memory

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
DOS could only use 1mb of memory, right?

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
Correct without EMS or XMS support

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
Not correct.  It could only use 640K.  Addressing between 640 and 1 meg was reserved for hardware.  You could tweak that space to load drivers in the spaces not used by hardware by using memory managers like Qemm386 etc.

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
The "Internal error" when trying to edit a section of a page is still there, don't let this topic derail yet :P

Re: HLP Doing more weird stuff
The Internal Error / Invalid h node passed to PPNode_DOM::splitHeading is a bug in MediaWiki 1.12 and newer on PHP 5.0. Apparently PHP 5.1 and newer works. MediaWiki mailing list seems to indicate that PHP 5.0 is too buggy and should be upgraded, perhaps I'll mention this to taylor when I can be arsed.

Anyhow, I applied a workaround fix to MediaWiki and section edits seems to work now.

Tested and works fine for me.
