Hi! First post here. I recently installed FreeSpace 2 on my computer. It's a Gateway FX laptop that I purchased in February, new, with 4 GB of RAM, a dual core 2.6 Ghz processor, and Windows Vista Home Premium. Here's my problem: Even though the Setup detects my memory properly, when I try to run the game, it says I have -6 MB of memory and it cannot run. I wrote Interplay about this, and they said that I should install FreeSpace Open. I did so, and I'm still having the same problem. Do you guys have any ideas? Has anyone come across this problem before?

Too much memory, retail can't see more than 2GB without problems in most cases. Try 3.6.10, get the .EXE and the launcher from my signature, plop them into your FS directory and run using the launcher.

Well, getting RC2 is also an important part because without FSO The Memory (issue) Remains. Gotta read more carefully.

Which FreeSpace Open have you installed? There are many many builds and several Launchers. The best options at the moment are FSO 3.6.10 RC2 and Launcher 5.5d, both of which are linked in my signature.

Make sure you're actually running the 3.6.10 RC2 executable, preferably through the Launcher.

Also, Interplay is endorsing Freespace Open in an unofficial capacity? Sweet!

That did it. Thanks! I did actually have it installed. Trust me - even on my computer, the install took FOREVER. But the new executables worked.

You should get the MediaVPs to enhance the graphics. You'll be blown away.

Then play Transcend, Derelict, Blue Planet, and Windmills.

First make sure the folder is empty, then unzip the MediaVPs to the \freespace2\mediavps\ folder.

Thanks. A couple questions regarding those: Is Diaspora released yet? I don't see a stickied download post. Will installing the Babylon Project change/prevent me from playing the FS2 campaign normally? ...I had another question, but I can't remember it.

Regarding the MVPs - I'd swear I just put the "FSU-MVP", "Mod", and "Readme" files into the folder from a download, but now I'm not sure where from - it was a link off of this post, I'm sure. You sure I should delete them all, Lobo?

Answer to the first question. No, but we're all hoping for a release soon.

Answer to the second, No. IIRC, it can be run as a standalone or as a mod. (I could be wrong though! It's been as while since I played it!)

AS long as you put them in their seperate folders within the FS2 folder. Yes you can select those folders through the launcher using the Mod tab.

The subfolders under \freespace2\ appear in the mod section of the Launcher. As general rules
- never put any non-retail files to \freespace2\ or \freespace2\data\
- have each and every mod in its own subfolder under \freespace2\.
That way mod handling is easy and you won't accidentally your FreeSpace 2.

Well, according to Firefox's download manager, I got them from hard-light not that long ago. I don't remember which post I got the links from, unfortunately. I'll still install the music and complete zips over it just to be sure, because I only downloaded 3 files individually. Thanks!
