I thought I'd seen the best of Marvel....
When they gave Frankenstein's monster Laser-beam eyes, however, today I discovered this:-

Looks like they ran out of good original ideas decades ago.

No wait.

They never had any good original ideas.

Re: I thought I'd seen the best of Marvel....
Marvel used to be quite good as a pointless read, but nowadays it's been retconned into oblivion. I stopped reading at around the Secret Wars stage, which, since catching up, seems to have been about the best place to stop. It's hard to tell what bloody universe or timeline you are in from one issue to the next now.

I used to read a few Marvel comics when I was a kid. Spiderman was always a decent read back then. Haven't read anything by them for over 15 years now though.

Spiderman is nowdays considered the posterboy for everything wrong with comics. Good call.

Whats wrong with Spiderman?

I never read any of the comics, and the only movies I've seen are Dark Night and Spiderman 1+2.

Comics were never my thing. Period. Justice League looked cool in a nerdy kinda way though :P

Re: I thought I'd seen the best of Marvel....
Been browsing some of the later comics, it's gone like every Media format out there:

"Hey, I've a great, original idea for our story!"

"What's that?"

"Let's make it really ****ing dark, morose and depressing! That's never been done before!"

Seriously, Brown and Grey is the new Red, White and Blue...

Essentially the sum total of my comics fandom outside of Iron Man and the new Batman films is the DC Animated Universe, because Bruce Timm and Paul Dini are ****ing awesome.

What's wrong with it now?

I believe most of it can be summed in the words "Joe Quesada" "Clone Saga" and "One More Day".

Googling any of those should probably give you an idea of the sheer rage many comics fans have for the series.

It's Spiderman and you're not a child anymore.

Something for kids can still be good for children even if I've outgrown it.

I see your point.

In before the local thunderstorm!

I recall Transformers comic books were good when I was 6 or 7. Nowadays I only read Donald Duck. I haven't read the Marvel comics that much, never got that interested.

The US stories are generally accepted as being poorer than the UK ones though. Which ones did you get? If you ever saw Ultra Magnus or Galvatron you got the UK ones.

Re: I thought I'd seen the best of Marvel....
Now you are asking a question I can barely answer. I don't even remember much of the stories any more. Some of the stories had a similar robot (and teens) from the first Transformers movie, though the stories were totally different. It is odd I can't even remember the names of the bots any more. But what can you do, it's about 22 years ago and I don't have transformers comics myself.
