I'm thinking of contacting a woman to play Captain Kristae. Lumin Kristae sounds fairly feminine, for whatever reason, and female VAs tend to be better than men in the amateur circuit. I'll poke around on voiceactingclub and whatnot.

And I agree about going for a female Kristae.  That name felt a bit off to me when I was reading it.

Ditto on both counts. I didn't even try out for Kristae because I thought it was a specifically female role. As for amateur female VAs being better, I think it's because their voices aren't so racked by puberty. (Admiral Carey is a female role, right? How many women do we have on board here?)

'Amateur' just means 'not-really-pro-yet'; many of them are far past puberty. Carey is female, Temeraire Comms was female, Sanctuary is female, Taylor was female, Mei Ling and Eriana are female...honestly wish we'd gotten a few more, come to think of it.

I got a hand-me-down mic from a friend of mine, and I actually sound a lot better on it. Only problem is it's super quiet. I'll go about rattling off those new lines.

My mic stopped working all of a sudden, and I was giving those Elder Martin Mandho lines a try. I tried updating drivers, tried the mic port on the front of my comp, neither worked. Any ideas?

At least I got those other three roles done though.

EDIT: The front port works now for whatever reason but there's a loud buzzing noise in all the recordings I try to make... I can't really record like this... Gonna try to track down another mic.

btw, don't worry too much about background hiss. Any decent audio editor should be able to eliminate it with noise reduction.

So, bit of trivia. I actually contacted Glynnis Talken Campbell, the voice of Kerrigan from Starcraft, to do some work for BP, after we exchanged some friendly emails on a different topic. She was receptive, but she's got a minimum fee (quite affordable, but still more than I wanted to shell out.)

She could've done a beautiful job for some roles in War in Heaven though.

I'd be shocked and truly impressed if you managed to get someone of her experience to engage in the project for... very little or free. I think that sort of activity for a practicing professional could actually be a poor choice, though. You'd end up getting a lot of "spam" from Mr./Ms. Nobody for some hair-brained project not worth the light of day. Blue Planet definately does not fit into that criteria, but you must set a standard somwhere.

Still, it's quite impressive you even managed to get in contact with the said person. If I can ask, how much was she asking for?
