MediaVPS makes FS2 freeze when a mission starts.
OK, whenever I start a campaign mission using the mediavps mod, the game freezes and I have to close the game via ctrl-alt-delete. The game wouldn't crash immediatly during the initial traning missions, but it would randomly crash shortly after starting them, I didn't notice anything that may have triggered it.

My specs are:
Windows XP Home edition
Radeon x1800 Crossfire Edition (got the latest drivers)
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz
2 gigs RAM

I've attached the debug log in case that helps. I'm using the latest build and Media VPS files (3.6.10). Oh, and the game works perfectly fine when I'm not using the mediavps files.

Can anyone help me here? I know my computer isn't the most powerful thing in the world, but I'd assumed that wouldn't be an issue

Have you noticed this thread? Both cases sound rather similar (and I'd like to limit the discussion to one thread if it's the same problem). I'm rather concerned if this issue starts popping up with numerous users.

Edit: Wait. You had a Radeon X1800. Check the troubleshooting FAQ's graphics section, particularly the third part of it.

Re: MediaVPS makes FS2 freeze when a mission starts.
Oops, forgot to mention I tried that. When I first put it into the folder, I got an error message telling me that "atioglxx.dl is not a valid Windows image" and to "please check it with your installation diskette" and the game wouldn't start. Then I tried renaming the file to "OpenGL.dll", and then the game ran as normal... but it still freezes when starting a mission. Same problem as before, basically.

I did notice the other thread, but I didn't think the problems where *that* simmiler - Elethiomel's problem sounds like the freezing is totally random, while mine happens as soon as a mission begins, or shortly afterwoods, we're using different OS (XP/Vista) and I didn't think it would be nice to hijack his/her thread. Nothing wrong with keeping both problems in one thread though, so if you want that then I'll repost the info in my OP in Elethiomel's thread, then you can lock this one if you want to.

Ah, excellent. It always warms my heart to know that people read it.

Did you try both of them? I've explained it in a bit unclear way there, but the one behind the "alternate link" is different from the first one. And the file name must be atioglxx.dll; that way the FSO engine will use the one in your \freespace2\ folder instead of the one in C:\Windows\System32\ without the need to completely install new drivers.

Yeah, I'll leave both threads open, since these are probably different issues.

Re: MediaVPS makes FS2 freeze when a mission starts.
There we go!  :) It works now, that second .dll file did the trick. Thanks for the help!

You may want to make it more clear in the FAQ that the two files are different though, I just assumed it was the same file hosted on different mirrors.

When writing that section, I was under the impression that both files were identical. I later checked and found out they were not, but never remembered to edit that part. It is fixed now.
