Yes, I know - I was good friends with a Brazillian family that lived here for a few years - their boy told me about the military there. :)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Cool. Thankfully, we currently don't have to use the military for it's true purpose, though.

Also "hello" and "goodbye".  Given the history of the Jews, the hope of peace goes pretty deep.

Shalom is right! It's the perfect word for times like this...goodbye and peace. Good luck Sandwich, try to come back in one piece, and try not to get used to it, cuz that would be bad.
Wait, that was dated the 29th? Maybe I did see you in the newspaper then (yeah right) or maybe I will...I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Don't have too much fun!

And to Shrike or Styxx, can't remember who: Brazil has an army? I didn't know that...
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Back for 24 hours, which are mostly over by now anyways... safe and sound so far; been going on patrols into Jenin on a daily basis. Fortunately we're only patrolling the city itself and not the refugee camp section - that's where all the hard-core terrorists are holed out.

I've seen a bit of action, in a way - on one of my patrols while inside an APC, we (my APC along with the other 3 APC's and 2 tanks) got a lot of grenades and explosives thrown at us from the surrounding buildings... luckily they didn't do much more than scratch the paint - God is good!!

Anyways, it'll be a maximum of another 2 weeks until I get out, but it could happen way before that, depending on when Israel completes rooting out the terrorists from Jenin, or whether they bow to the US pressure (I hope we don't). Time will tel; Powell just landed tonight.

Until next time, Shalom Aleichem!
