Or do you mean that if you have uploaded a video, YouTube offers you a direct download link to MP4 video files? Or that you can download your own video...? I have noticed no such thing. But I could just have missed it.

The IE cache or TIF (temporary internet files) way is fool-proof if you can put up with IE...I'm glad someone else actually does that.

Also, download helper has a link to the .mp4 versions for youtube, just select the "[HQ18]" version. The only problem is, if you watch the (whole) video in normal quality first, effectively you download the file twice, as the SD quality is a .flv file.

To get around this if you really need to save bandwidth, disable javascript and java. You can disable pictures if you want as well; I often find this useful with slower connections so I can get what I want and leave.

I use Firefox cache and have never had any trouble with it. You just need to identify the file and rename it with a valid extension... Works exactly the same with Opera as well, except that Opera graciously gives you valid file extensions on cache files.

Occasionally, you'll see the HQ22 and HQ35 options as well when using DownloadHelper. HQ22 is the widescreen MP4 format (1280x720 pixels if I remember correctly); HQ35 is the same as FLV.

Youtube has gone thorugh some upgrades and the VideoDownloadHelper button next to the videos no longer appears. Is there another way to d/l it using the add-on?

It usually doesn't work if I switch out from the tab with the video to another tab or application, then switch back again. This isn't a new issue because I got that with other sites since I started using it.
