What is it? I'm talking about the "MTS Model descriptions" that appear on a couple of the articles (e.g. the Myrmidon). What does it stand for? We've been puzzling over it in IRC and noone can figure it out

It happens to stand for "MeTaStream".

For those of you who used to visit www.freespace2.com, you may remember it. Metastream was a way to view the FreeSpace ships in pseudo-3D without having the model. It was a preview system that was used on the website.

I personally haven't been able to get Metastream working again, but there you go. For some reason or another Wikipedia accuses MetaStream of being adware/malware, but I dunno.

I can't remember ever seeing the abbreviation MTS, so I'm going to have to agree with DroidBot on this one.

It was probably a decision made very long ago, or by a single person without other people's consent (unilateral agreements? kind of an oxymoron there).
