Background wont save in FRED2?
Hi guys, i'm new to the site and this is my first post so hopefully you can help me :)

I just started gettin back into FRED2 again (after about 5 years of not playin  FS2 :) ) and decided to go through the walkthrough example mission 'shipyard' When i got to the background options (im using FS2_open and FRED2_open 3.6.9 now) i set everything it asks but there is no 'OK' i can only click the 'X' in the corner and it doesn't save it and it returns to default? I'm sure this is just a noob error, but im tryin to hoover up all the old FRED2 techniques as well as the newer, open source ones :)
Any help would be appreciated. Thx

Try hitting "enter" instead of the x.
I've heard that was the case for skyboxes, may be for bitmaps too.

Also, remember to turn on the ability to view the background when OUT of the editor. (I think it's under view).

Please do not do that. Please use 3.6.10 Final.

And yeah, clicking on an empty space in the editor window and hitting enter will close the window and save the background you set.

Re: Background wont save in FRED2?
Ah sweet that worked man! :D   (are a lot of these issues fixed in the newer build?)

One more thing, it's prob not something you can change, but is there anyway to fix the perspective movement issues with background bitmaps (planets suns and nebula), that seem to move as if they are in between you and objects that are more than about 500m from you, and not millions of miles away in the bg. I.e with the sun in the BG, if i stay still, it looks great, if i move in any direction it looks like the sun is only a few hundred metres in front of me. Sorry to be a nag :P  I'm just lookin to make some missions, and make them as polished as possible :D

Thx dude.

Re: Background wont save in FRED2?
Hmm. I don't know about that issue, but the error you described was not an error per se, but rather a case of FRED's UI being non-intuitive, I guess. That said, one of the major improvements in 3.6.10 (Among bugfixes, speedups, shaders, new features and general awesomeness) was a fix for widescreen resolutions. I'd say you have to try it out in a mission.

Oh, and just to check this: If you have the mediavps, did you get them from Turey's Installer? If so, you'll have to redownload them manually from the release thread.

Re: Background wont save in FRED2?
Oh sorry 1 more thing (cringes as everyone scowls at him) With the new build am i better adjusting the video options in the launcher to openGL (bearing in mind im running vista 64bit with a radeon 4870) Which setting will make the most of the higher resolutions available?
Thanks and i swear to god this is my last post!!!!!!!!!

Re: Background wont save in FRED2?
Well, you can select Direct3D, but it won't do anything. FS2Open uses OpenGL exclusively. So, leave it at OpenGL, and select the resolution you want. And I sure as hell hope this wasn't your last post.

Re: Background wont save in FRED2?
Lol of course not :D  I just meant whining about this issue :P  I'm sure you'll be hearing from me again. It would seem that nobody in my immediate vacinity has any particular interest in FS2 or anything sci fi for that matter, so it seems all my nerd ranting will prob be done here :D lucky you guys!!

Re: Background wont save in FRED2?
One thing to bear in mind about this site is that we will answer your questions as long as you've obviously made at least some attempt to figure things out for yourself. :)

If you ask questions, get an answer, don't bother to read it and then ask something again, that will annoy people. But we like to think that we're better than those boards that simply growl "RTFM N00b!!!!" at everyone. :D
