Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
Just wondering who this GoG people are who just suddenly popped out and revived FS2...  or provided some hope at least.
and if its worth pressurising them to make a sequel or an expansion pack.

Re: Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
GOG is just a reseller, they dont make any games they just sell ppls back catalogues in download form. They are licensed to do this by Interplay who own the freespace material....Interplay has been and still is neck deep in the financial septic tank and this does not look like it will change.

As for a sequel the news is not promissing

Re: Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
I'm not saying there will never be a FS3, but I understand its not gona happen in my lifetime, unless I make it.

However an expansion pack...? May pull them out of their financial problems. Looks like they overspent on crappy games (earthworm jim?) and too little on stuff they could actually sell (FS3). Thanks for clearin me up tho

Re: Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
I stil don't see any particular reason for FS3. The only things it could offer are an improved game engine (already achieved with FSO), shinier graphics (already achieved by the MediaVPs), new ships 'n stuff (already done by many, many people) and a canon continuation/ending to the story.

They could code us a modern MP engine, at least :)

Re: Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
I really don't think a FS3 is necessary. The SCP has given us "FS3" (in a way) and it rocks. As for Interplay, with the financial trouble that they are in (I read somewhere that they were in the negative billions... :nervous:) I don't think that they'll be providing another FS a while to come. :)
Do or do not, there is no try...

I think it would be nice if they release script for FS3 storyline, maybe in form of a book and let the community make a campaign out of it.

A lot of interviews with :v: have some mention of Descent or of FreeSpace. According to the coders and writers, they'd love to do a sequel. Actually, what may get the ball running is a report analyzing the market & giving positive reasons for making a 3rd standalone installment.

That would kill every project set in post-capella though wouldn't it.

I'm kind of against FS3, it would kill all the long-running modding projects.

I don't think so. That'd be like saying that FS2 killed FS1's modding projects. It might be a shorter time difference, but the idea's still the same.

There were no long-running FS1 modding projects for FS2 to kill.

Re: Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
I've always thought of FSO being FS2.5, and I think that's about as close as we are gonna get. I may be surprised one day, nobody knows.

I don't want FS3.

I want a completely independent "spiritual successor" that takes all of the best elements in a completely new direction.

Was it specifically said that the FS series would be a trilogy?

Re: Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
I found that FS2 has typical "Second part of trylogy ending", there are a lot of unanswered questions and the ending itself is generally grim.
Look at Pirates of the Caribbean, ending of it's second part just scream "there will be 3rd part", just like FS2, it couldn't just end like that.
Another example of this can be seen at the end of Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back, it doesn't have an happy end, because it's not the end at all.

You know, if they snuck into our community, toyed around with all the cool stuff we've done, and behind the scenes created a badass 'official' campaign to tie up all the loose ends, that would be sweet.  But of course that wouldn't help them monetarily so don't hold your breath.

I was thinking more on the vein that there might be more than 3 games in the series. It's probable that FS3 would focus on Sol given that FS2's conclusion focused on the new-found ability to stabilize the Delt Serpentis-Sol gate. I'm just curious how the whole unknown factor of the Shivans could be explained in one ~40 mission campaign.

Re: Are GoG partners with V/InterPlay or wadever?
Allright, due to flood, I can't read everything on my schedule. An expansion pack or FS3 will be nice to give us more dynamic gameplay (freelancer style maybe? Play the role of a mercenery?), ground and ship based combat (I've always wanted to be that boarding party) and most importantly, an explanation to the shivians.

Sol gate, Bosch leaving with the Shivans and maybe Snipes making Admiral. These are the things I was hoping to see. . .

That and more excellent music by whatshisname.
Campaigns I've added my distinctiveness to-
- Blue Planet: Battle Captains
-Battle of Neptune
-Between the Ashes 2
-Blue planet: Age of Aquarius
-FOTG?
-Inferno R1
-Ribos: The aftermath / -Retreat from Deneb
-Sol: A History
-TBP EACW teaser
-Earth Brakiri war
-TBP Fortune Hunters (I think?)
-TBP Relic
-Trancsend (Possibly?)
-Uncharted Territory
-Vassagos Dirge
-War Machine
(Others lost to the mists of time and no discernible audit trail)
