hey guys,

im really amazed by your project.
but.. actually i cant get it to work.

a whole day now im trying to install the thing with "tureys" installer, but on each try i get those messages in the log:

checking: fs2open_pxo.cfg
current file size: 0
new file size: 961
download mirror 1 (http://www.gamewarden.com /) has failed.
all download mirrors have failed.

this happens on various other parts of the files too. after finishing the installation, there are notes that errors occured and i have to try it again.

are these problems caused by the insaller, the files itself or.. whatever?


one time the wohle installer also freezed.


if it might be helpful:
my system is xp, fs2 and openAl are installed correctly, internet connection works as well as always.

uhm.. i hope there are not any problems with overwriting the existing files of fso, so i dont have to reinstall the game or?

If you've done it right, then the installer will correct things for you. Just read and re-read

To elaborate, the Installer downloads outdated executables, outdated versions of some mods that have been updated in the past (Blue Planet, for example), and it makes the mediavps unusable. For your own sake, please do a manual install.

I'm curious as to where newbies are still finding the Installer referred to as the recommended way to get everything set up.  Is there any place left, either in the wiki or a stickied thread, where a caveat about it hasn't been inserted yet?

I think Google still finds those posts. Not to mention people who read the posts, but choose to ignore the warnings. There was one guy who told me that he figured that, since more than 60000 people downloaded the installer, it would be alright if he used it as well, despite a big red "DO NOT USE" warning in the post. Then there are forums which are not HLP or GameWarden who may have mirrored the earlier instructions and forgot to update them.

before now i never heard that the installer is invalid.


one more question: with manually installing the files, is there anything which wont be overwritten by the new files and could cause further problems? in fact, is reinstalling of whole fs2 recommanded?
forgive me for my noobness, but i think i have lost the overview.^_^

NO. DO NOT USE THE INSTALLER. It will install borked files that will not work.

Double post for great helpfulness.

You should delete your old mediavps folder and make sure the new 3.6.10 Final executable is selected as the exe in the launcher. Delete Blue Planet and redownload it. Other than that you shouldn't need to reinstall anything.

Make sure you get the 3.6.10 version of blue planet, and anything else.
