This is taken directly from the first mission of the game set during the initial attack:
“Get your fat, lazy ass out of that rack, Ensign.” I awoke to the screams of my commanding officer.
“With all due respect Captain, it’s not that I’m lazy, it’s just that I don’t give a frak.” I hazily responded.
“…” I don’t know how, but he literally said “…” The look on his face said it all. “Ensign, you will shut the frak up, and you will report to the flight deck, twenty minutes ago.”
“SIR! YES SIR!” I threw him a salute, turned about face and marched off to my locker. I didn’t mean it, but hey, the asshole has to feel good about himself somehow. I glanced back to where he was, to see him turn and leave. No doubt with a smirk of self-satisfaction on his face.
I quickly threw my uniform on. I’d been naked up until that point, but no doubt you didn’t want to know that. Too bad.
‘Hmmm… now where did I put my boots’ I thought to myself as I tidied my uniform up. ‘Oh yeah, they’re--’
“ACTION STATIONS! ACTION STATIONS, SET CONDIITION ONE THROUGHOUT THE SHIP”
I lost my train of thought. Damned PA system. ‘Oh yeah! They’re under my rack!’ I walked back over to my rack when it finally hit me. The ****’s about to hit the fan.
“Oh frak…” I yelled to myself as I raced out of the barracks towards my station. Notably, bootless.
As I ran along the dark, flashing red corridors of the ship, I had but one feeling. Today was the day I was going to die. I kept running, seemingly for ages. I realised I was lost.
‘Well frak me’ I thought. That’s the last thing I remember thinking, anyway.

I awoke to find myself upside down, pinned between a crate of some kind, and a wall. ‘Well frak me’ I thought, again. The ship had been hit by something. I could hear screaming, all around me. The gravity was… I’m not sure. Both sideways and upside down I think. The whole place was spinning. After what seemed like an eternity, the gravity returned to at least partially normal. I slammed into the ground, followed by the crate.
Begrudgingly I picked myself up and continued to move towards what I hoped was the hanger bay. I found it. What was left of it, anyway. There was but a lone Viper MkVII sitting there, waiting for me. The entire squadron had launched already. The deckhands got me suited up while simultaneously trying to tend to their wounds.
I realised I didn’t actually know what was going on. “Yo Chief” I called out “What the frak is going on?”
“Cylons” was the reply. It was all I heard before the cockpit was shoved shut and my ship moved into the launch tube. It was all I needed to hear. I guess the situation was already pretty desperate; as I began to do my pre-flight the LSO had already given me the green light.
“FRAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK” was all I could think as I rocketed down the launch bay. I came out the end and suddenly I wished I hadn’t. There was debris everywhere. An exploding Battlestar to my left, hundreds of what I can only assume were Cylons to my right; and everywhere else.
I started to manoeuvre and try to figure out where I needed to be. I never got the chance to find out. My ship shut down. Blackness coming from all my instruments. A blinding flash of light; then, just blackness.
