I'm using Windows 7 here, and one of the first things I did after getting my video driver installed was install FSO again.

One word: Orgasmic.

1. FSO plays better on Windows 7 for some reason, even though Windows 7 is using more of my CPU and RAM at a time.  Windows XP had lag on high detail, causing me to set it to Medium.  FSO on Windows 7 has little-to-no lag on high detail.
2. Somehow, when I updated to Win7, I managed to squeeze better quality sound out of my soundcard and speakers, even though I'm using the same drivers.  I can finally hear how much better the HQ music in the MediaVPs is!
3. Cutscenes and missions load faster.

Among other things, I'd say I'm rather impressed.

Long live the emperor FSO!

FSX runs a fair clip faster under Win7 also - I can use higher detail settings.
I've also found higher framerates for massive battles 1&2.
I guess they improved the architecture somehow - either that, or nVidia have found a nice optimisation in their drivers!
STRONGTEA. Why can't the x86 be sane?

My xp is already kinda slow.. so I'm bound to make a clean sweep of the hard drive any time soon and I should start looking for a new OS.

I had some funky issues with the Windows 7 Beta, but I'm running the RC now and it's wonderful.

I'd reccomend Win7, it runs great even on an EEE PC.

It's DX11 and optimised architecture. I read about it some time ago.

Vista is not a really great OS... this is blatently obvious. I'd be really interested in upgrading to Win7 if you could give me some proof that it's less system intensive, etc., etc., than Vista. I could look for that later... but not now.

I can't FRAPS it for you to show you, because that would defeat the purpose of me showing you high framerates since FRAPS makes framerates go in the toilet...

But...

Yeah, I've been using Fedora for ages, but since release 11, sound doesn't work fine for me, even after installing diffrent drivers. So I've switched to Debian which is as good as Fedora.

I like the feel of Fedora better (I'm not quite to the level of swapping out XServers and stuff yet) except for the fact that Compiz is a bit wonky and the folder explorer opens a new window for every folder.

You can change that easily in your GNOME settings via "Open in a browser window"
