Some of it has been done...

I believe that Robotech is planning to have a custom flight deck, robotech-theme, and many campaigns have included modified load screen artwork and sounds. It's all fairly easy to do(well, maybe not the flight deck): just create a replacement ANI and put it in the interface(or sometimes effects) directory.
