I hate it. Disturbing and no longer funny.

I like it because it makes uptight people cry.

As long as it stays out of Support and the private boards, I like it.

It's 24 hours of brevity a year, I have no problem with that at all.

No offence, but that's how loud extremists usually get their way....

Re: Who likes th' pirate filter?
I don't care for the filter, and the "GO AWAY!" attitude associated with it sickens me.

Re: Who likes th' pirate filter?
No-one said 'Go away', they said 'if you don't like it, don't post for 24 hours', or, as BlueLion does, use the code brackets.

Thing is, people shouldn't expect the world to change simply because they shout a lot, that sickens me, it hurts no-one, and as I mentioned before, we all have to deal with things in life we aren't happy about, to be honest, my gripe isn't with whether the Pirate filter is in place or not, I'm indifferent, but when people act like they have over it, I will automatically fall onto the side of defending it.

Re: Who likes th' pirate filter?
I like seeing it in the off-topic sections. It's a fun change once a year, and it's not like anything here contributes to HLP anyway. :p I'm more ambivalent on the Freespace sections though, particularly the SCP and other project forums. It does seem like it might be impeding good work over there.

I can understand that concern, in places where stuff actually gets done, maybe a second-thought is required.

Re: Who likes th' pirate filter?
Indeed.  For example, in response to feedback from the first year we did the pirate filter, we turned it off in private forums for the second year.

defiantly fun in the off topic areas  but a bit frustrating in more serious areas especially when it translates things badly

Yeah, I honestly think I'd support nixing it in the project boards and support sections, at least, since one could argue that newbies with problems legitimately need access to them.  But you'd be removing it entirely over my dead body. :p

Re: Who likes th' pirate filter?
Also for the record, did anyone ever consider how incredibly frustrating this must be to the people who don't speak English as a first langauge? I know we have a number of them here.
