Do something you're good at. And get better. People ask me why I do pistol shooting, considering in my neighborhood there's just no chance I'll ever be call on that experience for protection of life or property. Well, the first reason is because I can't find a decent rifle range, but the second is because I'm good at it, so I like it.

Perhaps this is a silly question. I've just noticed I've been down on myself lately, with no real reason (I just can't blame it on quitting smoking, because I've done that before, to much less effect). What to the rest of you do when this occurs?

A couple of others have suggested it but sometimes you have to have a "ME DAY".  Do something out of the ordinary, something that is fun for you, and make that day largely about you serving you. Not everyone but some people such as myself spend quit a bit of time internalizing and making everyone else their concern... not always a healthy thing so when I get down I try and focus on me for a bit.

That might be all you need... maybe you need to hang out with a couple of close friends and get some stuff off your chest... I don't know.  Something might be bothering you that you haven't considered as well.  People are still partially driven by instinct... depending on your stage in life you may be feeling a fairly deep need for something (don't go off the rails on me people... minds out of the gutter!).

Find something that gives you a rush and push your limits. (Similar to what NGTM-1R said.) I personally love to mountain bike and freeski (Snow). I find that not only am I stoked to be progressing, it allows me to forget about whatever **** is going on and just feel the rush of whatever it is I'm doing.

The half-marathon I did yesterday was amazingly helpful, and the me day I had today was amazingly helpful.

lol, it definitely took a lot out of me, but it was only the first of many I hope. I figure I should do a lot now while I'm 20, my grandfather could do 5ks through his 80s, but I don't know how long I'll be able to run this fast and this long.

I'm mostly racing at 5K now, some 10Ks. I honestly don't know how people race in marathons, but hope to find out before too long.

nihilism is kinda like the game (which i just lost). if you try to be a nihilist, youve already failed. dieing would work, but only if you werent really trying.

I did the half marathon with someone else, it took a while, and I'm not counting the time honestly.

My mile is 6:30, my 5K is 23:40, my 10K was 2 hours - I need to do some speedwork and endurance no doubt.

My 13 miles was one hour forty two minutes. I can pull a mile out at seven minutes easily. 6 30 would make me puff.

That's a pretty decent pace. I mostly do shorter stuff like between 600m and 3k. (I'm currently trying for a sub 2:00 km) But I can pull out a 45 minute 10k if I really kill myself. normally I'm closer to an hour when I do it for fun.

I only remember those times because, hey its half a marathon and the other because of BPFT requirements.

usually when i go somewhere on foot, its because im too ****ing poor or too ****ing cheap to take a bus. that said i can walk 4 miles in less than an hour.
