Surround Sound, sound card issue
Ok here's my setup:

An old, but good Boston Acoustics 5.1 setup (little over 10 years old).  It's got one connection for the computer.  Edit: Boston Acoustics Digital Media Theater.
Asus P5B deluxe mobo (not exactly sure anymore what this integrated sound card is anymore, but it does use SoundMax) but it's got 6 plugins.
Win 7 RC

Stereo sound works good.   5.1 or quad only the front speakers work, neither the back 2 nor the sub does anything when trying to setup them up in the control panel.  However in winamp they do play sound.

What the heck is going wrong?  I've noticed the Logitech X-540 also have a one jack connector for the pc.

Re: Surround Sound, sound card issue
your speakers need to be connected via spdif to get 5.1

Opps I should say 4.1, but I assume the same thing?

Re: Surround Sound, sound card issue
i havent been able to hear surround for at least a decade. i remember old games (think unreal 1) where it made a difference but i guess years of listening to extreme metal at full volume has messed up my hearing. lately i tend to use whatever full range stereo speakers i can get my hands on, along with some ancient amplifier i got from a thrift store. it cost me 15 bucks and sounds better than any set of $100+ computer speakers connected to a $200 sound card ive ever had.
