Downloaded Ancient-Shivan War lately and I am getting some problems. It's just that I am able to get most of Ancient-Shivan War to work, yet there is still some crashing errors that I don't know if they came with the game or not, and have been effecting other people. I do got all the Vp files located inside the ASW folder, and copied into the tables. I started up the game, but I ended up getting messages saying that the game can't find the flyby sounds for the Ancients and Ashesidions (however its spelled) and uses Terrans and Vasudans instead. Going forward, I managed to get the game up, with the correct intro, the background picture, and all ships in the tech database with the "in_tech_database" flag, made a new character and selected the Ancient-Shivan War campain. BUT, instead, I get dozens of debugger messages exiting out of the game informing me that "arguement is illegal" and its all about the User-made cutsceen. I have not encountered this problem anywhere else, so is this happening to me, or have others encountered this?

Your fs2_open.log: (possibly the most important thing ever)
  • fs2_open.log is a file generated by debug builds. It contains all sorts of useful information that we need in order to help you. That is why you should follow the instructions below and provide us with that file when asking for help. Creating an fs2_open.log happens like this:
    • Download the recommended build (link is in the first post of this thread) if you haven't already and place the .exe files to your \freespace2\ folder.
    • Switch to windowed mode (open the Launcher, open the Features tab, select Dev Tools from the pulldown menu and tick on "Run in window").
    • Select the debug build (fs2_open_3_6_10_debug.exe) and run it. If you've been experiencing crashes, do exactly what you've done previously, up until it crashes.

      If you have had other issues, it is sufficient to run it until you get to the Main Hall. If the debug build crashes fatally even before getting to the Main Hall, no worries.
    • Quit the game.
    • Find fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data\, copy it to a safe location and include it to your post, either as an attachment (click Additional Options when posting) or using the "code" tags.

What I mean is, I got all 5 of the ASW VP. files in the ASW folder, the ASW mod selected from the Launcher, and I also copied and pasted those VP files and put them into the tables file found in the Data folder.

Honostly I know i sound very werid, but my game acts like if it has a mind of its own. Sometimes there is a problem, the next day it is fixed, and 2 hours later it crashes again. And to answer your question, i typically copy and paste those vp files because theses mods typically only seem to work 100% while both in the Home folder, and in the tables file.

Not surprising, given your apparent lack of understanding regarding the mod system. Read this guide, follow its instructions, and use them whenever you want to install a mod.

OK. All those extra files and stuff located everywhere was from me making a mad scramble trying to get ships to appear many months ago, with all sorts of different campains and ship.tbm files extracted using the modding tools. Overall, I've only been playing Fs2 for only 6 months and am overally new to the whole modding buisness. Go ahead and yell at me whenever I make a stuipied dumb error whenever i report another issue: I completely deserve it.

Perhaps there won't be any yelling, but I hope you do understand that it can occasionally be frustrating when people do things the wrong way, despite all the instructions.

And something occurred to me regarding these misplaced files: you should check all \data\ folders and their subfolders for any files. Particulalry .tbm. and .tbl files can end up affecting every mod (and retail FS2) if they're in improper folders. And this is why
- nothing must be place to \freespace2\data\ or directly to \freespace2\
- one mod per folder.
Having all things organized will lead to a less buggy experience and will make sure that if one mod fails, it won't break everything else at the same time.

Log file is not exist. Previous code was generate by pop-up window just before cut-scene starts, when i press ok, cutscene resume and i see acient ships make orbital bombing  then again this same pop-up windows apear.  Next in brefing room everything seems to be normal, mission with single cain and knosos also start as should be... but im still woried.

All previous people who encountered that error, were running a non-English version of FS, and hadn't installed the patch. So maybe you misplaced it? It should be in the same place as the other VPs, and preferably not renamed.
If you're worried, try running a debug build (up to the mainhall, then exit, that should do), and post the fs2_open.log here (can be found in FreeSPace2\data\ ).
