Player controlled Drop ship - feasable?
Is a player controlled Dropship/Troop Transport feasible?

Like the time used in Dropship: United Peace Force - A Brilliant PS2 game that flopped due to poor sales

By that i mean that the Player controls what is esentially a VERY LARGE bomber with a fighterbay/loading bay large enough for a troop Squad  (Hades Combine's Spaceman Model) or 2 Fighters?

video of what i mean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnhodk6Bz38&feature=related

Basically--
To summerise: Is it possible to put a fighter bay on a ship that the player controls?

Re: Player controlled Drop ship - feasable?
That actually looked like a really cool game! You don't see too many console flight sims...

Yeah, Dropship 1 and 2 were pretty cool.

to be honest if you adapt the glide feature in the 3.6.11 nightlys to mimic hover mode and you could probably recreate the games

Re: Player controlled Drop ship - feasable?
Well, there are several atmospheric mods currently WIP, and nuke is apparently working on a very comprehensive atmospheric flight dynamics script, so yeah. It could probably be done.

Well even real fighter sims cheat (and sometimes big time) with ai controlled crafts.

Re: Player controlled Drop ship - feasable?
Well, i'm not so much asking about atmospheric ships at the moment. But if it's possible then COOL!

The sort of situation i was thinking was - The play has to carry a squad of Space Marines (Shut it you Warhammer fanboys) and drop them off a waypoint by the enemy ship

Also I doubt you could perfectly recreate Dropship: UPF as some levels had you manning Turrets or Driving Tanks or APCs

Re: Player controlled Drop ship - feasable?
Driving tanks and APCs is possible on a flat terrain, manning turrets is one of the things Nuke's working on and flying the dropship may be doable, bu difficult.

Also theres a Dropship in TBP isn't there?

I was wondering how long before someone referenced Aliens or Starship Troopers

The EA Valkyrie is more of a Gunship than Dropship, based on what i saw in Canon.

B5 universe Dropships are more likely the Boomer Troop Carriers. (Those big space Planes seen along side that Nova in "GROPOS")
http://themadgoner.com/B5/B5Scrolls/Ship-1-13.jpg

or the Cougar Long Range Transport from "Crusade - Patters of the Soul"
http://themadgoner.com/B5/B5Scrolls/Ship-15.jpg

Neither included in TBP. But it is my ambition as a rabid fanboy an admirer of the Earth Force ships to get them in game

---just noticed that big mistake

I'm curious... Did those ever get put into TBP? I tried looking for them but never found them...
