What does this mean exactly, I'm trying to make cool-lookin' beams and I want to know what zadd means, anyone know?

Zadd is the odrder in 2D layers each beam is displayed (infront and behind each other ya know?)

actually it isn't to my knowledge...anyone who knows me from ws can draw a conclusion from that 'hehe'

Zadd is the damage multiplier for that segment of the beam, that is why you can fly into the edge and not get hurt. Try it sometime.

But Daveb specifically said (this was way in the dawn of time btw) that is was how '3d' the beam was.  The Z-addition.

law is right, but so is anal in a way. Its the beam layer from the center layer (lowest number zadd, usually 0). But the beam decreases in damage from the center. So the more colorful your beam is, the less deadly.

it adds distance along the Z axis of you're veiw tward you, this is for layring,
but I found that if you increase it too much you will get rendering errors, wich I used to create those funky beams a long while ago

I tried messing around with that zadd value a while ago and did get some weird effects. (cut-up beams, etc.) Aren't FS2 beams essentially 2D anyway though?

Exactly, its actually just a calculation line, and then the game draws the bitmap of the beam for you according to your position.
