Religion is the cause of pretty much every problem in the world. If everyone who believed in god suddenly ceased to exist (I'm not suggesting this), the world would be a much better place.
I quite agree here.

That would essentially be the whole world though, so it wouldn't really get us anywhere, but the religion concept will very slowly and subtly fade away over time through the generations anyway. Looking at the sociological trends, it will probably mostly dissappear in another millennium or so. (I can give more details here but I'd bore you all to death

) The die-hard fanatics will of course remain, but they will not be able to economically and technologically compete with the rest of the world, and so can be considered inconsequential and effectively dead for all practical purposes compared to the rest of humanity.
Religion is simply a by-product from the early formation of human civilization; as I have stated many times here, its two purposes were to provide a system of government, and to account for that which science could not explain. Religion was definitely necessary at the beginning because it provided a basis for people to work together for a common goal (thus forming civilizations) and brought a sense of order to humanity. However, it has long outlived its purposes at this point; the same tasks are now taken up by much more advanced and flexible systems. (human governments and rapid scientific progress)
so these people that are blowing them selves up are going to the same place the crusaders and all the other self serving religus fanatics went to, and they will fight for there god for the rest of time. wich to them is heaven
Yeah, it doesn't really make any sense for all religions to be correct, as most of them contradict each other, so in order to advance together as a true civilization, humans have to follow a path which everyone can accept, and in my opinion, the only one there is science itself.

This pinnacle of civilization can never be achieved by the current humans (due to our diversity), but I think that there is one midpoint somewhere between anarchism and communism that will be the best course for humanity for the current political era.
Man, I just read over that again and it seems a bit disorganized. I tend to ramble a bit on my ideas whenever this subject comes up.
