Between the two hanger bay menu on FS1, the Galetea's and the Bastion's, there's significant difference. For one, the Galetea looks older while the Bastion looked clean and sharp. Is Alpha 1 just on different portions of the ships or did the two Orion destroyers really had a face lift in between versions? If the destroyers could vary that much, does that mean there's different versions of the Orion?

Does anyone else think the way Volition handled the menu was ingenius? It adds so much more to the atmosphere.

I always loved the mainhalls in FS1 more than FS2.
 
Regarding the layout issue. There's quite a bit of obstruction in the Bastions one that could be hiding a similar layout to the Galateas. Under the gangwalk at the bottom left for instance. I just don't know

As far as I can tell, the Bastion and Galatea mainha;;s are the same model from different angles, just with more dirt and crappier lighting on the Galatea.

Well then, the Bastion must be several years newer than the Galatea. I always had the impression that when Alpha 1 gets assigned to the Bastion, he or she had just transferred to a ship that was commissioned very recently. Didn't GTI had control of the Bastion for a while as well? There were a bunch of special missions assigned when on the Bastion. I guess they get first dips on all the new stuff.

Thats possible i belive they date back to before the t-v war so would have gone through refit as resources were available, possibly the bastion took a torp to the fighter bay requiring a rebuild, bastion could also have been built to a later internal spec than the galatae

Or maybe the Bastions CO simply put more personel on cleaning duty than the Galateas CO...

I believe that it was said somewhere in FreeSpace canon (in game) that the Orions were first developed in the Terran-Vasudan war. I think it was an early command brief about the Galatea, but I'm not sure.
