The new, re-recorded version of We Are The World
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glny4jSciVI

I think it's absolutely horrible and they should feel ashamed of this dead-on-arrival monstrosity. They basically just scraped up whoever is popular, as opposed to who is actually a good singer as they did in the 80s original, and hence we end up with auto-tune, T-pain, Lil Wayne, half-hearted rap, off-key singers whose performances are just downright bad, and general lack of harmony in the song. How the hell can they sing about unity when they act like total strangers and care so little about the whole thing? I applaud the message, but they should be ashamed of putting so little effort into something this important.

Repeating myself slightly - Auto-tune, seriously? It's just so absurd -- It shows how the idiots who use it can't sing, and yet they still use it in the song? I don't understand why they didn't realize how bad this would reflect on the whole thing.

Apparently, Jay-Z didn't take a shine to it, either: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Jay-Z-Says-We-Are-the-World-Remake-Should-Not-Exist-135167.shtml

I think this video is a perfect example of the ethical question: Does the end justify the means?

People are totally missing the point.

So what if the ****ing song sucks?  They're raising money for suffering human beings.  Nobody erased the original 80s WATW.  Get over it.

Re: The new, re-recorded version of We Are The World
I saw this on TV the other night and could not believe how horrible it was. A whole bunch of celebrities, each singing in a different key, stitched together by some supermarket tabloid and marketed as glurge. No harmony, unity, cohesiveness, or even emotional impact whatsoever. It sounds and looks awful.

So does your mother at two in the morning :P

What does it matter? It's an ineffective ad, sure; but certainly nothing spectacular.

This is a spectacular ad.

It all means well, with the collecting of money for people in need, but this particular song is quite possibly the most anti-West, anti-capitalism piece of garbage ever.

****.

****.

Lil Wayne, go, **** YOURSELF. WHY

THE FLYING ****

WOULD YOU USE AUTOTUNE IN A SONG LIKE THIS?

****ING WHY.

YOU STUPID PIECE OF GHETTO-BRED ****. HOW COULD YOU ****ING DESTROY THIS SONG. Pretty much all of you artists in that video, why? What a commercialized piece of ****ing bull****. Intentions were good, sure. If it raises money, I'll act happy. But we really, really, don't need a modernization of "We Are The World". What happened to originality in the music industry? Why couldn't they have wrote their own song about the specific tragedy? AND WHY THE **** WAS JUSTIN BIEBER THERE. As a devout underground rap listener and 'Hip-Hopper', I have to say, that rap section of the song absolutely sucked ass. Man, way to ****ing ruin a classic.

No, no, no, no, no, no!

Giving nothing to back that up? Then don't bother posting it at all.

Come on, how many times have we been over this?

Come on, they MUST have known. It doesn't take a genius to know that if you redo one of the biggest charity songs ever with autotune, bad egomaniacle rappers, and generally just people whose only reason for being there in the first place was attending the Grammys, that you'd end up with a travesty. If I hadn't already donated, I would be put off of donating by this shameful commercial stunt. I mean, it's so obvious that the only thing these people care about is the publicity.

I wouldn't have any complaints if they had made a new song. That would be absolutely fine, and by today's musical standards, it would probably be radio-worthy, but to give an idea of how much they shamed the original, think of Uwe Boll remaking Citizen Kane. Yeah.

You are correct, I should have backed up my statement, and upon further review I was thinking of some other song that was "like" We Are The World.

Maybe, or could it be you're somehow more attached to this song than most? Factually, it's just one mistreated song among thousands of others :)

Who cares? Honestly? Let them redo any crappy song they want. If you don't like it, don't listen to it.

I certainly wouldn't have known about it except for your overreaction to it. I never heard of the original song ever, but let me tell you, it's not that great. Riddled with cliches and altogether booorrriiiinnngggg.

Again, totally missing the point.

If this song raises even a penny for Haiti you should be more than willing to overlook its faults.  Hell, even if Uwe Boll made a movie and donated the proceeds to charity I couldn't care less about the movie itself.

When discussing anything Uwe Bol creates, the ends under no circumstances justify the means.
