Just finished watching this and I thought to myself "holy ****", I would have believed it if I didn't know better. I felt it was well done.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Personally, I thought the part about how we're all crystal dragon jesus in purgatory was a bit overdone. On the other hand, PUPPIES!

I shouldn't have been so dismissive, and I'm glad you liked it.

But I do generally trust critics.

Based on IMDB reviews, it divides opinions sharply, and the part that absolutely dislikes it is larger than the part that absolutely likes it.

Based on just that I can't really say whether I would like or dislike it, but it'd be a risk investment and I'd rather save my money for something that a. I hear mainly good things of, and b. is about something I give a damn about.

Never been a fan of alien abduction conspiracy drama genre.

I did until critics of my then local newspaper gave Star Wars Episode 1 an "A-". Rotten tomatoes gives it a "62%". Looking at Avatar which except for the special effects really was not a good movie at all, yet they gave it an "82%". Critics being trustworthy? Not always.

EDIT: Just for the hell of it I also looked up Return of the Jedi, which really was a bad movie and they gave it "75%". Give me a break.

No, those are just critics disagreeing with your opinions. (Your local critic is a sample size of 1.)

I have found the opinions of critics to match up well with mine, and in general, I consider the consensus of multiple critics to be a good guide to filmmaking.

You're free to enjoy what you like, of course, and to disagree with critics however you please.

You're seriously defending star wars episode 1? :wtf: Despite the horrible acting, bad dialog, andbad writing?

A movie about Alaska?

Well at least...uh **** it, (INSERT SARAH PALIN/EXXON VALDEZ/POLAR BEAR/ESKIMO JOKE HERE SEMI-RELATED TO THE MOVIE)
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

Well, what saves episode 1 is Natalie Portman and Liam Neeson, and maybe the fact that after episode 6 you can pretty much expect anything.
And if anything else fails, there is still Natalie Portman.  :P

Premature request for thread split.

Also, Liam Neeson was a disappointment in Episode I...not him as an actor, but because he was given such a terrible character to play.  Natalie Portman does redeem part of the movie though.

I wasn't trolling, I was simply questioning their sanity (and yours for that matter). :P

I thought random and useless/enraging questioning/remarks was the definition of trolling.  Oh well, guess you learn something new everyday.

Honestly, I thought this film looked stupid.  Had the feeling that the trailers had every interesting part of the film already covered.

I saw the preview in theaters while blazed out of my skull, and it scared the living **** out of me. Then I saw the same preview again the next day while sober, and I had an epiphany about how fundamentally the film industry is structured around marijuana use.
