What happened in November of 2005?
Hi! I've got a question for all the old-timers on HLP. What happened in november of 2005 that made the number of new posts and new members sky rocket? If you look at the statistics page, the number of new members is consistently low, and then at that time it jumps to 126. So is there an reason for this?

Shenanigans.

Not the cheeky and fun shenanigans.  The cruel and tragic ones.

Which makes them..not shenanigans, at all really.

I believe the forum software was changed at that point. The place used to be on vBulletin before then.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Re: What happened in November of 2005?
Yeah, I've been pretty busy. :p I've been dropping by occasionally to make sure things haven't gone to hell in a handbasket. I intent to be around a bit more once spring comes; certain extra financial burdens should be all paid up by then, leaving me with some breathing room in life. There are definitely downsides to getting paid by the hour... ;)

You look like an old person

I believe the forum software was changed at that point. The place used to be on vBulletin before then.

Looks like CP had it right; I looked up the site stats, and they started in Nov 2005, which makes me think that there was a big switchover then, during which we began tracking visitors.

I'm almost positive this is it, because I can remember in my early days as a member, HLP had that different main page that actually had a bunch of articles and cool stuff on it, and I remember them making the switch to what I thought was an intermediary stage between said page and the current page.

Was there an intermediary main page? How many main pages have there been?
