The old fart in me loves that the Classics session will remain unsullied by new threads due to the inability of forum members to stop mentioning it in the very threads they hope will be added it it.

The remaining part of me just wants to ban people who do that for spoiling it for the rest of us.

Indeed.  Not only does it kill any chance of getting in the classics, it generally kills the thread itself too, because you get two or three pages of argument about it.

The six month rule was added because that's generally the absolute minimum amount of time it takes to determine whether the thread "contributed significantly to HLP culture" or not.

No.  First, it's not six months old yet.  Second, it's a commentary on the culture rather than a contributor to it.  Third, it disqualified itself.

Yes, but that reflection on the culture was itself a contributor to it, by enabling everyone to have a good laugh at themselves and the state of GD in general.  The disqualification, too, was in the tongue-in-cheek self-awareness sense instead of an earnest (and annoying) request.  I can't think of any other thread in the past year that's brought a big chunk of the community together like that one did, which at least in my mind puts it in that echelon.

Or in other words, RATIONAL EXPLANATION AS TO WHY GOOBER5000'S OPINION IS ILL-FOUNDED.
