Registry Errors... ARGHH!
Whenever I try to play Freespace 2 open, i get the following error; "Failed to set an important registry entry". I can still play the game, but it makes me unable to run FRED with mediavps, so I'd like to fix it. I heard somewhere that this could be caused by not having a patch, and i downloaded it, but, IT DOESN'T COME WITH A README FILE AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO PUT IT!  :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:


If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.  :yes:

E, there is a reason i didn't run a debug log. This doesn't have anything to do with mods or in game content. All I asked you was WHERE SHOULD I PUT THE 1.2 PATCH!? (and yes, i have tried putting it in the main FreeSpace 2 directory.) So, here's your debug log. If it helps, i will admit my mistake. But, I really don't think it will.

You see, the problem is this. The 1.2 patch can be gotten here as well: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/FAQ/Downloads/HotUv1.20Pack.rar

Unpack that, and replace the root_fs2.vp in your fs2 base dir with the one in the archive.

This is a different issue, one that has got nothing to do with the 1.2 patch. This is something where having debug log is necessary. Either there's something wrong in your setup, or your understanding of the situation.

Run the FRED debug build. Preferably the 3.6.12 RC1 FRED. Remember to start it with -mod mediavps (You may need to create a shortcut to do this).

After it has either loaded or failed to load, please post either the fred2_open.log (if using the RC), or the fs2_open.log (If using something else).

Well fortunately FRED now accepts mods in a similar way to FS2_Open. My bet is that you haven't done that. If you have it will read -mod mediavps

That sentence right there? Does not make sense. Like, at all. If you want to know what FRED is loading, look at its debug log. Also note that FRED ignores mod.inis.

Also:
