omg Red Arrow Coolision
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100323/tuk-red-arrows-collide-during-greek-trai-45dbed5.html

During training.  Fortunately no deaths, one pilot with a dislocated shoulder, two beat up planes and the inevitable damning government inquest (government inquests are always damning in the UK media so that is how it will be treated)

"An inquiry has been launched into the cause". Amazing.
I've seen these guys at work on the Farnborough Air Show once. It's stunning evidence of their capabilities that they don't crash into each other much more often. No inquiry needed IMHO. These things are bound to happen, **** happens even to the best stunt teams.

Government inquiries happen after pretty much any military accident like this one. It doesn't mean it's a witch hunt or anything. It just means they want to find out what happened and recommend how to stop it happening again.

Yea if it happened due to mechanical error, I think they'd want to know

Re: omg Red Arrow Coolision
Although, sometimes they find that "one of the pilots made an error". Of course errors will occur when you're flying at such high speeds - as long as they don't make a big fuss over it if it was an "unintentional" mistake.

Mistakes are never intentional. :P

God bless the Red Arrows. They're bloody awesome and i'm glad the pilots aren't as hurt as they could have been.

Re: omg Red Arrow Coolision
Wow. These guys are in the business of high-risk flying though, even when the inquest goes on, I highly doubt there's anything that could've been done to prevent the collision. It'd seriously affect the trust between the pilots though, I'd imagine.
