Been meaning to, tried to start it last year, but it shorted somewhere and I can't be arsed to go down there and move it to where I can get at it.  Besides, I drove it into the ground more or less, there aren't many parts in the engine that would be worth much.  On the upside, the tires are still inflated after 3 years.

Well, as long as the body isn't overly-rusted it's salvageable.  Replacement parts abound--thank God for recyclers and junkyards.

Most UK car operators wouldn't survive a head-on at 60mph either.  The reason all those fancy ultra-high mileage europop golf carts aren't sold here in the states is because they don't meet the safety standards, and the ones that do cost a bunch more than domestic models in the same category.

SUVs don't meet the safety standards of smaller cars, and they're sold here, so..

I swear deer are an evolutionary dead-end.  Any animal that seemingly tries to jump into the path of a loud, fast, scary metal monster with big bright lights deserves to go extinct.  I'm surprised the damn things don't plow into trees when they're running through the woods.

The European crash safety standards are essentially equivalent as the North American safety standards.  There are differences and different requirements which means that cars that are certified for Europe have to be re certified for North America.  Japan has it's own standards too.  Plus all of the different pedestrian safety standards are different.  Similar end result but different standards.

The difference is not in safety.  The difference is because European cars use smaller engines and tend to favour diesel engines which get better mileage overall.  What Europeans don't tend to get without having been here is that the US and Canada have much greater distances and much bigger highways and often having the bigger engines is required to deal with highway speeds.  When I went to Ireland for example there was one road that even remotely looked like a major Canadian highway and that lasted only a little while.

Plus 22mpg is in the US measurement.  In the UK would be 26mpg.

Funny enough i think there was a list of funnest cars to drive and surplus police interceptors was one of them,  first because they can haul ass and second because other drivers instinctively make way for you.
