Heh, you're saying that you have a new computer, but don't tell specs. ;) :p

And everyone (well, not actually) seems to be a mad renderer here, and has dual processors. ;)

  • Away in RL land. Back later.
Cool.

It's not quite buying time for me. I'll wait and see what the verdict is on the KT400 (VIA). Don't know when that's coming around, though. Still, this Abit mobo looks good.

I'm saving (student saving..gmpheeheehee!!) for a clawhammer-based system for next year.

This one will become a renderslave/net server for my house.

Here's to getting a job over the summer!

I'm waiting for the R300. But if it doesn't come quite soon, I will not. :headz:

Edit: I guess some of you will have 8 processor sledgehammer systems next year.

Not a processor. ;) But a core of next generation Radeons (9500 or 10000, I think). Of course if NV30 (next core for Geforce cards, if those will be called Geforces) comes first, I will buy a card based on it (and if it isn't too expensive).

Im waiting for the new 3Dlabs processor.

Or failing that i'd plump for a wildcat 6210.

Either way...extra-mad render bunnies like me need accuracy, something Nvidia is notorious for not providing in any way, shape or form :(

Not that i'd buy one of their cards if they did.

dual athlon 1800+
tyan tiger mother board
1024 mb DDR ram
geforce 4 ti 4600
60 gb (7200) hard disk
sounb blaster live 5.1 (wanted to save abit and my ears aren't up to telling the differnce between it and the audigy)

anyway its a fast machine hehe and i love it

You want resolution? Screw resolution, size is more important. There's nothing like hijacking a physics lab projector and playing Q3A through it. 6x4 feet of pure carnage.

How well do those cards work for games? Do they allow all the latest options, like 4X AA?

They're pretty useless at games; I tried running some games on a computer with an Oxygen-based card at my dad's work and the games ran quite slowly. The prices are also sometimes as high as entire systems, but they're meant more for graphics professionals than gamers.

I am pretty much waiting for the next generation of processors to be released, at which point I will probably go for a new machine. ;) (I basically need something that can run games well but can also run through floating-point calculations quickly, as mathematica really needs good FPU performance to make implicit 3D graphs)
