Having just gotten home from the theatre...

Where's the rest of it?  They have to have left a reel out somewhere.
So as through a glass, and darkly
The age long strife I see

Many names, but always me.

Well, paraphrased from a conversation about the movie,

Friend: Oh yeah, I saw Clash of the Titans.
Dilmah: Oh yeah? How was the story?
Friend: What story?
*both laugh*
Friend: See it in 3-D though, fight scenes were damn cool.

You fools! Anyone who wanted plot would have watched the original. They knew that anyone going to see the remake was an idiot who just wanted to see CGI so that's exactly what you got.

yeah, now that i watched the original i'm a lot less hesitant to see the remake, because there's pretty much nothing that could be worse.

I didn't necessarily want a much of a plot, but a narrative flow would have been nice.  Or at least some exposition in a movie so fast in the pacing that they managed to skip the scene where it is determined that Perseus is a demigod, because in this version no one know he's anything but a fisherman.  And also how he went from said fisherman to a warrior of no equal...in 10 days.

The fights were cool though. And the chick was kinda hot.

The original was great, but everyone I've spoken to who have seen the remake, and who had watched the original has been dissapointed.

Personally, if you want Greek mythology at its best, read the Homer novels, this is more of a Myth-mash than an actual tale, the Kraken, for example, was nicked from Norse mythology.

Yeah, this movie felt like it was missing a lot of exposition and overall depth to the world. There were some fun concepts shown but it was all skimmed over way too much.

But still, I went with the purpose of watching a 3D people killing monsters movie and that's what I got.

This makes me disappointed reading some of the reviews here - that trailer for the film made it look simply amazing.

Make no mistake, it is better than the "trailerfest" that Cloverfield was, but compared to original and what everyone's expectation was, it fell flat on it's face and had a seizure.

I think I saw the most culturally critical part of the movie when Liam Neeson was like

WE ARE THE SPESS MEHREENS! WE ARE THE EMPRA'S FUREH!

Also, no, I don't hate myself enough to go watch a remake of a film that was, by all accounts from people who are not addled by nostalgia, pretty poor to begin with.
I will ask that you explain yourself. Please do so with the clear understanding that I may decide I am angry enough to destroy all of you and raze this sickening mausoleum of fraud down to the naked rock it stands on.

Yeah, it's terrible, no CGI, no Surround Sound, only a plot, some passable (though, admittedly, not exemplary) acting and stop-motion special effects.

Who'd want to watch a film where you actually have to use your imagination a little?

Okay, show of hands. Is there anyone here who likes the original a lot thinks the original is a good film and did not first see and love it as a child?

I loved Jason and the argonauts. Skeleton goodness. Also that other one with the robo-monsters made big.

Okay, show of hands. Is there anyone here who likes the original a lot thinks the original is a good film and did not first see and love it as a child?

Let me put it this way, the majority of people won't, because it doesn't have CGI or any bells and whistles by todays standards. Look at Avatar, massive box office takings, not because it's a deep or meaningful story (helpless natives saved by white-man from space - hmmmmm) but because it's pretty. It's not a question of nostalgia, it's that the vast majority of public think that not having bells and whistles makes it a bad movie, particularly in the Fantasy and Sci-Fi genre. If you haven't watched the movie, then I suggest you don't judge it, and if you do watch it, I suggest you do so with an open mind, I thoroughly enjoy old Dr. Who episodes, and yet, by todays standards of production, they are crap, yet they still have a timeless quality that cannot be replaced by any amount of CGI.
