If you want to use ships from FS2, you need retail FS2 installed. Meaning you need either the original discs or the GOG download.

'Do you have FreeSpace Open installed? What does your FreeSpace 2 folder look like?

Please run this program: http://www.spadixbd.com/freetools/jdirprint.htm on your FS2 folder. Make sure to mark the checkbox with the "Recurse subdirectories" text. Then post its output here.

Why can't people just read the FAQ and post a FS2_Open.log?  It would make support so much easier...............
No-one ever listens to Zathras. Quite mad, they say. It is good that Zathras does not mind. He's even grown to like it. Oh yes. -Zathras

It's a program that will tell us what files you have in your FS2 folder. It will generate a text file with the complete layout of your FreeSpace 2 folder, which you should post here. That way, we will be able to see what is going wrong.

I know with fred not being supported by the launcher atm this wouldn't help here but would it be possable to stick a button in the launcher that reads "i have technical issues which I cant solve - internet required" when hit the button opens window asking the user if they have run a debug build (explaining how) and read the FAQ with a link to the FAQ, if the player hits yes it opens a new thread here with the log file attached and space to write a description of the problem, if they hit no it explains to the player it will attempt to run a debug build of the FSO exe they are using and that they should try to re cause the bug again and that once done they should hit the button again and hit yes.

I might just make a new launcher and add that button to it.  Though you'd probably kill me because I would code it in Java, I'd still do it.

That is something that wxLauncher is going to support, though we have not fully hashed out how exactly it will work, nor do I remember where I mentioned it.  Unfortunately version 0.8 is delayed until after the end of May, as I have other commitments.

Please file a feature request on the wxLauncher bug tracker so that we don't forget.

Oh god. NJSP, have you EVER read the installation instructions? Or is there any particular reason why you did so many things wrong?

Here are a few things you NEED to do.

1. Delete the following files from your FreeSpace 2 folder.

3610_Patch.vp
fsport.bmp
fsport3_1_1.vp
FSU-MVP.bmp
innosetup_license.txt
InstallConfig.java
InstallerGUI.java
InstallerPage.java
InstallerSection.java
InstallPage.java
IntroPage.java
MV_Assets.vp
MV_Core.vp
MV_Effects.vp
MV_Music.vp
readme (2).txt
readme.txt
SelectPage.java
THFileIO.java

The FS2_Open-3.6.10 (debug).app and FS2_Open-3.6.10.app directories should be deleted as well.

2) The following files need to be moved.

-Everything from data2\ and data3\ to the main FS2 directory:
These files should overwrite files of the same name in the main FS2 dir.

In addition, you should read the Installation instructions found here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=47640.0
They contain a few lessons you should take to heart regarding the proper handling of mods.

I should also remind you of this post of yours. I sure as hell hope you have since learned a bit about "all that codeing stuff crap". It definitely comes in handy when modding.
